JFS received a $2,700 donation for the agency’s Mental Health Fund. The gift will support individuals through counseling, psychiatry, group activities, and self-help skills.

JFS is also part of the "Stigma Free Atlantic" program to reduce the stigma associated with mental health and substance use disorders. The program creates a culture so people feel comfortable seeking help by raising awareness, promoting respectful language, and encouraging community support.

New Jersey offers the 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline. Text, call, or chat 988.

History to Present

Through the Years

Founded in the 1930’s by two community leaders, Cele Cassman and Sara Singer, Jewish Family Service was originally established to help assimilate immigrants resettling in this area and to provide for the poor, the hungry, and the homeless. From a small “storefront” operation, JFS has grown to a full-service social service agency with a staff of 140+ that each year serves more than 8,500 individuals.

A Community Partner

Today, JFS partners with many community organizations as well as state and county agencies. In addition, JFS is a constituent of the Jewish Federation of Atlantic and Cape May Counties and a partner agency with United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey in Atlantic County. Jewish Family Service is a member of the Association of Jewish Family & Children’s Agencies (AJFCA) and the New Jersey Association of Mental Health Agencies (NJAMHA).
