,I want to talk about agonists , , , . I believe that they are truly helping those with diabetes get down to a healthier Hemoglobin A1C and weight. The problem is that everyone, sisters, mothers, friends, kids are ALL USING THESE DRUGS FOR WEIGHT LOSS ONLY, without knowing about the risks, some of these are permanent and very serious. These injectables have become so easily accessible and affordable that anyone can get it now. One of my 70-year-old patients got it from a compounding pharmacy after paying her $189 monthly charge. She had a 5-minute consultation with the online Nurse Practitioner. She was ecstatic that she had finally lost the 30 lbs that she had been struggling to lose for years. However, her face, arms, legs and abdomen were all hanging on her and she had no muscle tone. So I asked her what changed in her diet. I got the same response as everyone else I ask " I stopped eating sugar and carbs". Nestle, Coca Cola, Pepsi and fast-food chains feed our addiction to food, then Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisc sweep right in to addict us to weight loss pens. It's much cheaper than a gastric bypass or sleeve, right? Think twice people.
Now for the downside to using these injectables.
is currently facing over 1,800 lawsuits, with potential liabilities exceeding $2 billion due to severe health complications reported by patients.
Background on Ozempic
Ozempic is a medication primarily used to treat type 2 diabetes and has gained popularity for its off-label use in weight loss. However, it has been linked to serious side effects, including severe gastrointestinal motility problems, permanent vision loss, hepatitis, pancreatitis, and gallbladder disease. As a result, it has become the focus of one of the largest pharmaceutical mass class action lawsuits in recent history, with lawsuits alleging that the manufacturer, Novo Nordisk, failed to adequately warn consumers about these risks.

Nature of the Lawsuits
Health Complications: Plaintiffs claim that Ozempic caused conditions such as gastroparesis (stomach paralysis) which by the way is PERMANENT, intestinal blockages, and sudden vision loss , ALSO PERMANENT, due to non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION). Other reported issues include gallbladder complications, hepatitis and pancreatitis.
Legal Proceedings: The lawsuits have been consolidated into federal multidistrict litigation (MDL No. 3094), overseen by Judge Karen Spencer Marston. This consolidation aims to streamline pretrial proceedings as more cases continue to emerge.
Financial Implications
Legal analysts estimate that the total liability for Novo Nordisk could exceed $2 billion, making it one of the costliest drug safety disputes in history. The number of lawsuits is expected to grow as more patients come forward with claims.

Current Status
As of August 2025, there are over 2,600 cases filed against Novo Nordisk related to Ozempic and similar GLP-1 receptor agonists. The litigation is ongoing, with bellwether trials anticipated in 2026, which could set precedents for future settlements.
To all of my patients who are attempting to lose that 20-30 lbs for a wedding, vacation or to fit into that size 8 dress again, please think about your diet, avoid sugar, stop eating in the middle of the night, only drink on weekends and for goodness's sake, EXERCISE DAILY. MAKE THE TIME even though it's hard. I cannot tell you how many and Ozempic bodies I see in my office every day. If you don't keep up with good nutrition, supplements and EXERCISE, YOU ARE SIMPLY GOING TO WASTE MUSCLE!! If you break your hip in your late 70s or 80s, there is a 30% chance that you will die in a nursing home within one year. PLEASE THINK BEFORE YOU INJECT. This is a public service announcement .
