Why Laughter is Essential Medicine for the Mothering Soul

In the middle of a long pregnancy, the intensity of labor, or the sleepless fog of the postpartum weeks, laughter might feel like the last thing on your mind. But in my work as a doula, I’ve seen how a genuine moment of levity can completely shift the atmosphere of a birth room or a tired home.

The Physiology of Joy:
😂 In Pregnancy: Laughter reduces cortisol (the stress hormone), creating a more peaceful environment for both you and your growing baby.
😂 In Birth: Laughter releases endorphins—our body’s natural pain management—and helps the body remain soft and open rather than tensed and fearful.
😂 In Postpartum: It provides a necessary "reset" for the nervous system when the demands of a newborn feel overwhelming.

Today, my rhythm is simple: Find a reason to laugh with the kids. I found that today by taking the kids through a car wash. The simplicity of childhood lightens my soul. Don't underestimate the power of joy to cultivate a home filled with peace. When we choose to find the humor in the messy middle, we aren’t just "having fun"—we are actively tending to the emotional health of our families.

How are you inviting laughter into your home today?

If you are craving a birth or postpartum experience that honors both the sacred and the joyful, I would love to support you. Click the link in my bio to book a clarity call.

Hosanna in the Transitions 🌿

Happy Palm Sunday, mamas. As we enter Holy Week, today’s Lenten Rhythm is a heart-check for me: Declare Jesus as King over your schedule, your timing, and your heart.

In the world of birth and postpartum, "timing" is often the very thing we try hardest to control. We circle dates on calendars, we track windows for breastfeeding, and we wait—sometimes impatiently—for the "right" moment for labor to begin.

But as I look at the triumphal entry of Jesus today, I’m reminded that His timing is rarely our own, yet it is always perfect.

🤰🏻 In Pregnancy: He is King over the days of waiting and the development of that tiny life.
🕯 In Birth: He is King over the hour the first contraction starts and the moment you first hold your babe.
🤱🏻 In Postpartum & Breastfeeding: He is King over the long nights and the slow, steady rhythm of nourishment.

When we declare Him King over our schedules, we release the "hustle" and the "hurry." We stop rushing the process and start tending the heart. Today, I’m laying down my own plans and asking Him to lead the way in my home and my business this week.

What part of your schedule are you surrendering to the King today? Let’s hold space for one another in the comments. 👇

A New Life, A New Rhythm, and the Wonder of Creation 🌿

Welcome to the world, little one!

There is nothing quite like the atmosphere of a birth room when a family chooses to pivot. I recently had the honor of witnessing a mama navigate her birth journey with the most incredible strength.

Birth rarely follows a perfect "script," but it always has a rhythm. When the plan shifted, this mama didn’t break—she leaned into the Spirit’s flow with an intuitive grace that left me in awe. And standing right beside her was a father who embodied the "Head of the Home" in the most compassionate way—providing a shield of steady love and prayer that allowed her to surrender to the process.

Can we talk about the biology for a second? (Swipe to see!) 👇
Check out this placenta and that umbilical cord!

The placenta is the only organ the body grows specifically to be given away, and this one was a powerhouse. And that cord? I have seen many, but the size and strength of this one are absolutely astonishing—a literal "lifeline" in every sense of the word.

Every birth is a reminder that we are fearfully and wonderfully made.

Join me in the comments by sending some love and "congrats" to this beautiful family! ✨

Supporting the Head & Heart of the Home 🛡️❤️

Happy Monday, mamas. As I lean into my Lenten rhythms this week, today’s focus stopped me in my tracks: Pray for your husband’s protection and for him to feel the Spirit’s leading at work.

In the world of doula-ing and motherhood, I often say the mother is the heart of the home—but we cannot forget that the father is the head.

Our husbands carry a weight we don’t always see. Whether he is navigating a high-pressure meeting at the office, working tirelessly at a job site, or standing as your steady rock in a dimly lit labor room, he is carrying the responsibility of providing, protecting, and leading. That weight is heavy, and it wasn't meant to be carried without the Spirit’s leading.

When I’m at a birth, I see it firsthand: when the "head" of the family is covered in prayer and peace, the "heart" of the family can truly open and surrender to the process. 🕊️

Today, I’m pausing my "to-do" list to intentionally pray for Michael. I’m praying for protection over his mind at work and for him to feel God’s hand as he leads our family through this season.

Will you join me? Let’s take a moment to lift up our husbands—for their work, their protection, and their vital role as the head of our homes. 👇

I’ll be honest, mamas—I’ve been a little quiet on here lately. Life with four little ones and a busy heart sometimes means stepping back to breathe, and that’s exactly what today’s Lenten rhythm is about: Release a plan that isn't working. Flow with the Spirit's rhythm instead.

In birth, we talk a lot about "Birth Plans." But as a doula, I like to think of them more as "Birth Desires/Preferences." Why? Because birth, breastfeeding, and those tender postpartum days are not meant to be controlled—they are meant to be tended.

Sometimes the "plan" for a quiet, unmedicated birth shifts into a journey of necessary interventions. Sometimes the "plan" for exclusive breastfeeding turns into a journey of supplemented grace. When we cling too tightly to the plan, we often miss the peace God is offering us in the pivot.

Today, I’m releasing the pressure of "perfect" and choosing to flow with where the Spirit is leading my home, my family, and my business.

What is one "plan" or expectation you’re releasing today to make room for more peace? Let’s talk about it in the comments. 👇

Decision fatigue is real, especially when you’re carrying or nourishing a new life. ☁️

Today’s Lenten rhythm gave me so much peace: When a decision feels unclear, ask yourself, "What am I cultivating in this choice?"

In my doula work and my own home, I’ve realized that the "right" choice is usually the one that nurtures life and aligns with God’s wisdom, even if it’s the harder path.

🌿 Are you choosing a birth provider? Ask if they cultivate a legacy of empowerment or a culture of convenience.
🌿 Are you navigating a breastfeeding struggle? Ask if your next step cultivates grace for your body or a spirit of "not good enough."
🌿 Are you setting postpartum boundaries? Ask if you are cultivating a peaceful sanctuary for your family or a people-pleasing rush.

We aren't just making choices; we are tending a garden. Let’s choose the things that bear fruit. 🍎
Which decision are you currently "tending" to? If you need a friend to pray through it with you, my DMs are open. 🤍

03/13/2026

When the options feel loud, look at the fruit. 🍎✨

In the world of birth and postpartum, the decisions can feel endless. Should I try for a VBAC? Which pediatrician aligns with our values? How do I handle this breastfeeding hurdle? When we are overwhelmed, we tend to ask, "What is the fastest/easiest way through this?" But today’s Lenten rhythm offers a better question: "What am I cultivating in this choice?"

As I’ve been reflecting on my own Rule of Life for 2026, this question has become my compass. In motherhood, we aren't just making "logistical" choices; we are planting seeds.

🤰🏻 In your birth plan: Are you cultivating a spirit of fear, or a foundation of informed peace and trust in God’s design?
🤱🏻 In your breastfeeding journey: In the late-night sessions, are you cultivating a sense of "hurry up and finish," or a rhythm of presence and connection with your baby?
✨️ In your postpartum recovery: Are you cultivating a "bounce back" hustle, or a season of sacred rest and healing?

Every "yes" and every "no" is tending to something. If a decision feels unclear today, stop looking at the immediate result and start looking at the long-term fruit.

If you’re standing at a crossroads in your pregnancy or postpartum journey and need a sounding board, I’m here. My "Clarity Calls" aren't sales pitches—they are heart-tending sessions. Let’s look at what you’re cultivating together. 🕊️

🕊 Lord, today I lift up the mamas who feel like they are walking this path alone. For the one who feels invisible in the grocery store aisles, the one who is struggling with the transition to postpartum, and the one who is craving a community that understands her heart.

Remind her today that she is the heart of her home and a treasure in Your kingdom. Remind her that you see her through and through, that she is never alone. Break the spirit of isolation and replace it with Your peace. Bring her sisters who will offer "sweet counsel" and hands that will help carry the load. Let her feel Your presence in the mundane chores and the long nights. Amen. 🕊

If you’re feeling unseen today, please know my inbox is always a safe, non-judgmental place to land. You weren't meant to do this alone. 🤍

The DNA of Self-Worth: Why your words carry eternal weight. 🧬✨

Today’s Lenten rhythm was to identify a specific strength in each of my kids and tell them about it. It’s a simple task, but after listening to the Captivated Podcast (Ep. 114) today, it felt incredibly heavy and holy.

A phrase from that episode stopped me in my tracks: "The father creates the identity, and the mother creates the self-worth." Think about that. As mothers, we are the primary mirror our children look into to see if they are lovable and worthy. We are literally cultivating the soil of their souls. 🌿

But God didn’t just give us this job and leave us alone. He wrote the connection into our very biology. Recent studies on "fetal microchimerism" show that cells from every child we carry stay in our bodies for the rest of our lives. These cells even migrate to areas of injury or illness in the mother to help her heal. 🩺🤍

This is why today’s rhythm matters so much:
If my children’s cells are literally part of me—helping me stay strong and healthy—then my words to them are a way of reciprocating that life. When I identify a strength in them, I am pouring "healing cells" back into their spirits. I am breaking the "mother wound" cycle and choosing to be the mirror that reflects their God-given value.

Today, I told my boys:
Mikey, you are strong.
Christian, you are gentle.
Eli, you are patient.
Esther, you are tender.

I am carrying a piece of them with me forever, and I want to make sure I’m using that connection to build a legacy of grace.

Mamas, what is one strength you can speak over your little ones today? Let’s fill the comments with life! 👇

Nourishment before the noise. 📖✨

Today’s Lenten rhythm challenged me to do something small but life-giving: Read a scripture passage as nourishment before checking social media.

I’ve been sitting with Proverbs 27:9: "Oil and perfume make the heart glad, and the sweetness of a friend comes from their earnest counsel."
In the world of birth, postpartum, and breastfeeding, we often find ourselves searching for "counsel" in comment sections and search bars. But there is a specific kind of sweetness that comes from Christ-centered friendship and spiritually grounded support.

As women, we weren't meant to carry the weight of new motherhood in isolation. We were designed for the "perfume" of encouragement and the "oil" of shared wisdom.

Whether you are prepping for labor or navigating the long nights of nursing, I hope you find a moment today to nourish your soul with Truth before you tend to the world. 🌿

Who is a friend whose "sweetness" has made your heart glad lately? Tag them below to say thank you! 👇

Happy International Women's Day to the life-bearers and heart-tenders. 🕊️

Today, we celebrate the incredible way God designed the female body and soul. Think about it: we are created with the unique, divine capacity to create life, sustain it within us, and then raise it with a strength that can only come from Him.
In birth and postpartum, I see this strength firsthand. It isn't just physical endurance; it’s a spiritual resilience that anchors a home.

For today’s Lenten rhythm, we are leaning into literature. I’m spending some time with “Glimpses of Grace” by Gloria Furman. It’s a beautiful reminder that our "ordinary" days of mothering are actually extraordinary opportunities to reflect Christ’s love. 📖✨

Mama, if you are feeling weary today, take a moment to look in the mirror and remember: you were made for this. You are a life-builder, a legacy-maker, and you are deeply loved.

What is one thing you love about the way God designed you as a woman? Let’s celebrate each other in the comments! 👇

Saturday night Sabbath vibes: Crocheting, quiet, and a much-needed reset. 🧶✨

It’s 10:00 pm, the house is finally still, and I am tucked into bed with my latest project. Today’s Lenten rhythm is all about "Focusing on Play," and for me, that means picking up the yarn just for the joy of it.

As moms—and especially as mamas in the thick of birth prep, new postpartum days, or the around-the-clock demands of breastfeeding—we often put "play" and "rest" at the very bottom of the to-do list. But I’ve learned that self-care isn't a luxury; it’s a necessity for motherhood.

If you are pouring out for your family all day (and sometimes all night!), you have to find ways to pour back in. Whether it’s 15 minutes of a hobby you love or just a quiet prayer in bed, that rest is what allows you to show up with grace tomorrow. 🌿

Mamas, what is one "hobby project" or small act of play that makes your heart feel full? Tell me in the comments! 👇
