If you’re anything like me, you don’t really trust anything “new” or “different” unless it’s science based, fact checked and researched. Trust me - I get it. I’m a huge fan of peer-reviewed journal articles - thanks OkState! With that being said, I’ve spent a lot of time doing my part to read & provide solid evidence that what I do has benefits. Below is another article I found super interesting. Hope y’all do, too! Happy Sunday. 🤓

Conclusion copied from article if you don’t have time to read all of it:
“This study indicates that massage to the caudal muscles of the equine hindlimb increases its active protractive movement measured as stride length. Massage may therefore play a valuable role in the development of strategies used to improve a horses locomotor function, e.g. during a period of rehabilitation or when optimum performance is required for competition”

FREEBIE ALERT! 🤩

I’m feeling generous and wanna give away a free session!

All you have to do to be entered for the drawing is share this post, tag a friend who might be interested AND like this post! Each friend you tag is an extra entry (i.e. tag 4 friends - your name is entered 4 times). You must “like” this page to be eligible, also. I’ll be checking. 😜 just one action is NOT considered an entry - must like, share & tag.

I will draw THANKSGIVING DAY MORNING! 11/28.

Good luck! 🤪

Anatomy Monday’s? Is that a thing?
Probably not, but thought I would take a moment and go over some basic equine muscular anatomy!
I won’t bore you with the entire body just yet - so I’ll just start with the “first third” of the horse and just the main muscles that I focus on during a session 🤓

1. SPENIUS: the orange/gold colored grouping in the neck of the horse. This muscle is responsible for elevating, extending, and flexing the neck. This area, and part of the trapezius, is generally the intramuscular “shot triangle” that some of us are familiar with.
Symptoms of soreness: constant lateral flexion to one side or reluctance to lateral flexion

2. BRACHIOCEPHALICUS: lies more ventral than the Splenius, colored red in the picture. It’s role is also neck flexion, extending the shoulder and bringing the limb forward.
Symptoms of soreness: restricted or lessened stride length of front leg and/or reduction in shoulder extension

3. I’m going to pair the deltiod and triceps together since they work together by extending the shoulder (deltoid) and flexing the shoulder (tricep)
Symptoms of soreness: reduced front leg stride and/or shoulder extension, refusal (jumpers mostly)

That’s all I’ll bore you with for now 😜 hope everyone has had a good Monday!
