This month, De'sa Fuller, a middle school assistant principal in West Georgia, started the new school year with her Wellstar care team cheering her on. When she experienced a stroke at her school in April, another teacher's quick thinking to call 911 and collaboration between Wellstar West Georgia and Wellstar Kennestone Regional Medical Centers saved her life. When Mario noticed he was out of breath frequently—and his smart watch notified him of an irregular heartbeat—he discussed his symptoms with his primary care physician. An electrocardiogram detected a leaky aortic valve, and after discussion with his care team at Wellstar Center for Cardiovascular Care, Mario went ahead with a transcatheter aortic valve replacement. This minimally invasive procedure has given Mario more energy so he could get back to doing the things he loves—like taking his granddaughter to the zoo. "It's like a new heart," he said. If you're experiencing epilepsy, seizures, Parkinson's disease or other tremors and medication hasn't helped, Wellstar offers surgical options. Wellstar is one of only a few epilepsy and seizure programs in the state that uses advanced methods to help our patients, including minimally invasive surgery such as laser interstitial thermal therapy, robotic-assisted stereotactic EEG and neuromodulation.
