Any Age.....

If symptoms or conditions are present:

You should pay attention to calcium if there are signs of imbalance or related conditions like:

‼hypercalcemia (too much calcium): fatigue, confusion, kidney stones, constipation
‼hypocalcemia (too little calcium): muscle cramps, tingling, irregular heartbeat
‼hyperparathyroidism (common cause of high calcium)
‼Kidney disease or certain cancers

Again, a simple routine blood test will rule this out!!

AGE 65+

This is when bone health becomes a much bigger priority.

As we age, bones naturally become more fragile—making prevention, monitoring, and support essential.

Here’s what that looks like:

✔️ Doctors often monitor vitamin D levels
✔️ Calcium intake becomes even more important
✔️ Bone density scans (DEXA) may be recommended

And here’s something we see every day…

We routinely check vitamin D levels in our patients—it’s a simple blood test.

And the truth?
Most people are nowhere close to optimal.

Low vitamin D = poor calcium absorption = increased risk for bone loss.

So if you’re 65+ (or approaching it), don’t wait for a problem.

👉 Check your levels
👉 Support your intake
👉 Protect your bones now

Because strong bones = independence later. 🦴

Continuing the calcium conversation…

Let’s break it down simply:

In general:
For most healthy adults, calcium levels aren’t routinely checked unless there’s a reason.
It’s usually part of your basic lab work—and most of the time, it stays normal unless something is off.

But here’s where it really starts to matter 👇

AFTER AGE 50 (especially for women):

This is when the risk of bone loss and osteoporosis starts to increase—especially after menopause.

And here’s the key shift:
It’s not just about your blood calcium levels anymore…

👉 It’s about your daily intake
👉 Your absorption (hello, vitamin D)
👉 And your overall bone health

Because you can have “normal” labs and still be losing bone quietly.

So instead of asking:
“Is my calcium level normal?”

Start asking:
✔️ Am I getting enough calcium daily?
✔️ Am I supporting absorption?
✔️ Should I be thinking about bone density screening?

Your future bones will thank you. 🦴

Happy Earth Day 🌿

Today is a reminder that caring for our planet and caring for our health go hand in hand.

What we put into our bodies…
And what we take from the earth…
Are more connected than we think.

Choosing whole foods, supporting sustainable sources, and being mindful of what we consume doesn’t just impact our health—it impacts the world around us.

Even small choices matter:
🌱 More plant-based meals
💧 Staying hydrated (skip the excess plastic when you can)
🥬 Supporting local and seasonal foods

Because a healthier planet supports healthier people.

What’s one small change you’re making today—for you and the earth? 🌎

In speaking with a patient recently, we had an in-depth conversation about calcium—when it matters, how much you need, and whether you’re actually getting enough.

Have you really given it much thought?

Do you still drink milk… or have you switched to oat or almond milk?

Here’s the truth:
There’s no magic age where you suddenly need to “worry” about your calcium levels—but there is a time when you need to start being intentional.

✔️ Bone health starts to matter more around age 50 (especially for women)
✔️ By 65+, calcium, vitamin D, and bone density become critical
✔️ And at ANY age—symptoms, diet, or health conditions can put you at risk

Important reminder:
Blood calcium ≠ bone health. You can have normal labs and still be losing bone.

So the better question is:
👉 Are you getting enough calcium daily?
👉 And is your body actually absorbing it?

Drop a comment—milk, oat, almond… or none of the above? 🥛🌱
