Also known as yogic sleep, Yoga Nidra takes the practitioner on an awareness journey into different states of consciousness. This journey is one of looking inward, with as little effort as possible. You will learn more about the layers of yourself, known in yoga as the Koshas, along with the 4 stages of deep rest. 😌

So much JOY here!! 😍🌈🧡 This photo was taken after all our YTT graduates taught a final 1-hour class of their choice as a celebration for themselves and our community 🎊🤩

Every one of them led a solid practice with confidence and ease - they are READY to continue their journey as students of yoga as they pass along their knowledge also as teachers. It’s been awe-inspiring to witness their ‘becoming’ - Abby, Elite, Heather, Suzy and Stephanie ❤️

And in their midst is the orchestrator of it all, and the creator of what will soon be known as the best YTT in the area - Alison Gurevich - she developed and delivered a training program that truly prepared these students to teach immediately. 💯

And they were supported with love by the entire community of staff and students at gruvnYOGA. We are all SO proud of them and what they’ve accomplished! 🥰🙏

✨ Reiki & Restore is coming up this weekend, so if you’ve had trouble getting into our prior sold-out session, now’s your time! There are some spots remaining, but they won’t last long! ⏱️

You will be guided through a deeply relaxing restorative yoga practice using bolsters, blankets and other props. Offering both hands-on and off healing, Reiki will then enhance the effects of the practice, aiding to release emotional, mental and physical stress. 💆‍♀️

In Chair Yoga we also love to utilize the wall, and this month has been exploring heart-opening shapes ❤️

Natarajasana ~ Dancer Pose 💃🕺

A one-legged balance posture, the wall can help support you while building strength in the standing leg. Pressing your foot into the chair helps open the hip flexors and stabilize your core. Pressing a hand into the wall aids to open space in your chest, while alternating your lifted hand can challenge coordination.

One pose, many ways - that’s accessible yoga! 👏

Every Wednesday at 10:30am - 🪑 Chair Yoga is a great option if getting down to the mat is out of reach. You’ll still practice mindfulness, yoga breathing, and asana options that allow you to challenge yourself as much as you choose. Functional mobility is our focus, and we want you to move freely for your lifetime. 🌊

🎊 Congratulations to Erica DeMeritt - she's in our Student Spotlight for February! 👏

It's been 2 years since Erica took her first class at gruvnYOGA and she's dedicated 250 hours of practice with us since then! She is a consistent student who embraces the principle of getting your yoga practice in, even if she can't always commit to the same classes every week. She makes every effort to show up when she can, no matter what class or teacher it is. It's this commitment to presence that makes all the difference.

She loves Vinyasa, but she discovered the beauty of Yin yoga last year and has added it to her routine, striking a balance between movement and stillness. The best part is the energy that Erica brings to her mat, which is always open, positive and intentional; and she gives encouragement and support to her fellow yogis.

What keeps you coming back to your mat?

"Yoga just makes me feel better. When I miss even a few days, I can feel a huge difference. I’ve spent a lot of time observing people aging - some well and some poorly. I’m hoping yoga will help me be someone who ages well and stays active for as long as possible! And Gruvn just has fantastic teachers. It’s hard to stay away long!"

Can you share a benefit of your practice that's helped the most?

"I’m so much stronger than I used to be! I thought I was fit before I started yoga - but my upper body strength, in particular, is so much greater than it used to be."

How do you enjoy time off the mat?

"I love spending time with my family and dogs, and I love exploring the natural world and traveling. Luckily, those things go together a lot of the time! I try to walk my dogs daily at Leita Park, where I also hunt mushrooms and enjoy seeing the seasons change. This spring I have trips to Peru, Barbados, and France and Spain planned with my kids. It’s my hobby to travel as much as possible, as cheaply as possible (so it’s usually in economy, often with a layover, and I definitely always need yoga on my return)!"
