On January 30, I was in the middle of teaching a yoga class when I felt a sensation in my head that almost knocked me off balance. I pushed through and finished teaching even though I knew something wasn’t right. I rushed home afterwards and that sensation immediately ramped up to be the worst headache I’ve ever experienced in my life. It came with nausea and vomiting, and just two days later, I’d lost 7 pounds from not being able to eat or keep anything down. I kept getting headache attacks that lasted for hours and hours on end. And those attacks continued for three straight weeks. I remember being in my bathroom one night thinking that my time here was done. The pain was debilitating, scary, and mysterious. Urgent care, the ER, and my doctor all treated the pain like it was a migraine but I wasn’t responding to any of the treatments. I don’t have a history of migraines and I really began to fear what was happening in my brain.

Thankfully, MRI and CT scans were clear. I still don’t know exactly what happened but I was able to see a neurologist, who is currently treating me for “status migrainous,” a more aggressive form of a migraine headache and one that doesn’t respond to typical treatment. I’m feeling better than I have in weeks, but I’m not out of the woods yet.

There were days and moments where the pain was so bad, I felt like I couldn’t even breathe. I was worried about not being able to keep up with my responsibilities and desperately tried to tap into all of my yoga practices. The one I ultimately had to access was surrender. Work and taking care of my home would have to wait. I had to learn to sit with the pain and focus on my healing. This has been my yoga.

Yoga is much more than just movement. It’s a mindful breath. It’s sitting with grief or pain. It’s finding a place of stillness deep within when you’re in the ER, antsy from a medication and wanting to rip the IV out of your arm. It’s surrendering to what is. I’m still very much on the road to recovery. But I’m grateful for the practice that always returns me to myself.🧘🏽‍♀️

How has yoga been of service to you?🦋💜

Grateful that this path found me and I can be of service to others.🧘🏽‍♀️💜🦋

Happy First Tuesday of 2026!✨

I hope that you are moving into the new year with ease. I’m grateful for the time I had to catch up on rest, reading, and being with family.🤎

I was also quietly working on some things behind the scenes and I’m excited to officially share that I’ve come on board as a yoga instructor at a studio that is local to my rural-ish community. I’ve missed teaching in-person classes but it’s been hard to find studios in my area. I kept doing my research and finally found a place that feels aligned. I took a few classes, sent in my resume, met the owner by happenstance during one of my class visits, and on Christmas Eve, we had a call where she formally invited me to join the team. I’ll have my own class on the schedule soon!🙏🏽🧘🏽‍♀️

It’s said that success is when preparation meets opportunity. Sometimes it starts with a feeling in your heart. I always tell my students and clients that no one knows the song of your heart like you, so it’s important to follow it. After four years of moving around and getting settled in Georgia, we are finally settling into a home we love and I’ve found a new yoga home that’s just 10 minutes away. Here’s to new beginnings.🥂

Trust yourself. First and always.🌿

👋🏽 Hi! It’s Rachel. Your favorite yoga teacher and future yoga therapist. Here with your weekly dose of Tuesdays With Rachel.🧘🏽‍♀️

❄️The winter season can feel heavy for many of us. Shorter days and reduced sunlight can disrupt serotonin and melatonin levels—two key hormones that support mood and sleep. This shift is one reason Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) and winter anxiety are so common this time of year.

🎄Add holiday stress, overstimulation, travel, family dynamics, and disrupted routines, and the nervous system can move into overload.

🌙Restorative yoga offers a steady counterbalance.
From a scientific perspective, restorative postures activate the parasympathetic nervous system—the body’s built-in relaxation response. This helps lower cortisol, decrease muscle tension, improve sleep quality, and support emotional regulation.

🕯️From a holistic perspective, restorative yoga creates a space to slow down, reconnect with yourself, and cultivate grounding during a season that often pulls us in many directions. It invites warmth, quiet, and inner steadiness when the world feels cold and fast.

🪷If you’re navigating winter heaviness, overwhelm, or wanting to tend to your mental health with more intention, my upcoming yoga sessions are for you.

🤍Join me for my Online Winter Restorative Yoga Series.
A gentle reset for your body, mind, and energy. We’ll be meeting via Zoom on three Mondays in December (12/8, 12/15, 12/22) from 7:30-8:30 PM ET.

As the world begins to grow quieter, our bodies whisper for the same.🌙

Winter invites us to slow down. To rest, reflect, and renew. Restorative yoga offers us a way to honor that rhythm. To soften into stillness and reconnect with your body’s wisdom.❄️

In this week’s Tuesdays With Rachel, I’m excited to share the launch of my Find Your Free™️ Winter Restorative Yoga Series. Three cozy online yoga sessions designed to nurture your heart and energy, and support you through the season of stillness.🧘🏽‍♀️

Sights and sounds from Ibiza, Spain.☀️🐚🌹🪶

I’m still processing what was a most nourishing and insightful retreat experience. A video recap is coming soon.🪷

The first slide offers a pause for mindfulness. Take a moment to listen to the soothing sound of the Mediterranean Sea while also gazing upon the gorgeous sunrise.🌅

Slide 5 is a picture of a leaf I found in my backyard this morning. I turned 48 yesterday (10/27) and I set an intention for my personal new year to be filled with abundance and self-love. Finding a heart-shaped leaf is a great start for this next rotation around the sun. It’s also a reminder that love is everywhere.🍂

I wish you peace, ease, purpose, and joy as we move through these last few days of October and towards closing out 2025.💕
