👋🏽 Hi! It’s Rachel. Your favorite yoga teacher and future yoga therapist. Here with your weekly dose of Tuesdays With Rachel.🧘🏽♀️
❄️The winter season can feel heavy for many of us. Shorter days and reduced sunlight can disrupt serotonin and melatonin levels—two key hormones that support mood and sleep. This shift is one reason Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) and winter anxiety are so common this time of year.
🎄Add holiday stress, overstimulation, travel, family dynamics, and disrupted routines, and the nervous system can move into overload.
🌙Restorative yoga offers a steady counterbalance.
From a scientific perspective, restorative postures activate the parasympathetic nervous system—the body’s built-in relaxation response. This helps lower cortisol, decrease muscle tension, improve sleep quality, and support emotional regulation.
🕯️From a holistic perspective, restorative yoga creates a space to slow down, reconnect with yourself, and cultivate grounding during a season that often pulls us in many directions. It invites warmth, quiet, and inner steadiness when the world feels cold and fast.
🪷If you’re navigating winter heaviness, overwhelm, or wanting to tend to your mental health with more intention, my upcoming yoga sessions are for you.
