ACOG reaffirms the safety and benefits of acetaminophen use during pregnancy.
More than two decades of research have found no causal link between acetaminophen use during pregnancy and autism, ADHD, or intellectual disability in children. Acetaminophen continues to be an important and safe option for managing pain and fever in pregnancy—conditions that can pose serious risks to pregnant patients and their fetuses if left untreated. It’s not just baby blues. And it’s not “just ADHD". The postpartum period can make ADHD symptoms (and emotional overwhelm) so much heavier, and yet, most mamas have never been told this.

If this sounds like you, you’re not failing. You’re navigating postpartum with a brain that already carries a heavier load.

Women with ADHD are 5x more likely to experience postpartum depression and/or anxiety than non-ADHD women. Andersson NW et al. (2023)

ADHD isn’t just about dopamine.

Serotonin matters, too, for mood, impulsivity, sleep, and focus.

New research shows that for some people with ADHD, changes in how serotonin is made and used in the brain may explain emotional dysregulation and stress sensitivity. Supporting serotonin through nutrition, gut health, lifestyle changes, or targeted medications could be a missing piece of care.

About Therapy Mama®

Hello! My name is Jacqueline V Cohen and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, an ADHD Certified Clinical Specialist Provider, and a Nationally Board Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist Diplomate. I have been in private practice for over 10 years working with maternal and paternal mental health which includes depression and anxiety during pregnancy and the postpartum period, infertility, loss, and birth trauma.

I also work with eating disorders, body image, adult ADHD, life transitions, substance abuse, and more. I enjoy working with individuals ages 18 and older as well as couples. I started my practice in Georgia, and in 2017, moved to Colorado. I am currently licensed in both states and offer Telehealth for Georgia clients.

I enjoy providing therapy for therapists, as well as Supervision for those working towards licensure, and Consultation for clinicians needing guidance working with my specialties, exploring self as therapist, clinical skill, administrative effectiveness, and professional identity.

When working with clients, my philosophy is the intentional practice of self-compassion including the 3 principles by Kristen Neff, Ph.D. When we can really connect to our own humanness, we create a platform for positive change, self-awareness, self-acceptance, and living life as our authentic best selves.
