📚✏️ The school supplies are stocked, but is your child emotionally ready? As backpacks get heavier, so can anxiety, sadness, and overwhelm.

In our latest blog by Stephen Wise, PsyD, we’re unpacking the Signs of Back-to-School Depression—and how to spot them early.

Because it’s not just the homework load that can weigh them down.

✨ Nothing changes unless something changes.

Becoming your future self means making space—adding new habits, boundaries, beliefs… and letting go of what no longer fits.

It’s not just hard work—it’s heart work.

Honor the effort. Trust the process. Keep becoming. 💫

🧠 Men’s mental health matters more than ever.

Every year, over 6 million men in the U.S. suffer from depression, yet many never seek help. Su***de is the 7th leading cause of death for men, and men die by su***de nearly 4x more often than women.

It’s time to change the narrative.
Talking about your mental health isn’t weak—it’s courageous. Strength is asking for help, checking in on your friends, and prioritizing your well-being.

Let’s support the men in our lives and break the silence. 💙

What if ADHD isn’t a deficit… but a different kind of brilliance?

According to a recent New York Times feature (April 2025), ADHD may not be a disorder at all—but rather a unique brain design.

It’s not about being unfocused. It’s about being hyper-attuned—to everything, all at once.

Here’s what that can look like:

1️⃣ Sensory super-scanning
The ADHD brain doesn’t filter—it captures every detail, every signal, all the time.

2️⃣ Laser mode
When something clicks, attention doesn’t scatter—it locks in with intensity and speed.

3️⃣ Creativity on overdrive
New ideas don’t trickle in—they flood the system in bold, unconventional bursts.

4️⃣ Kinetic cognition
Movement isn’t a distraction—it’s how the brain organizes, explores, and solves.

5️⃣ Blueprints, not boundaries
Rules aren’t barriers—they’re raw material for innovation.

And here’s the mic-drop stat:
People with ADHD are three times more likely to launch their own businesses.

Maybe it’s not a problem to fix—but a power to understand.

Ever feel like part of you wants to move forward… and part of you just wants to hide? That’s your internal system speaking — and Internal Family Systems (IFS) can help you make sense of it all.

IFS is a powerful therapy model that sees your mind as a collection of “parts” — each with its own voice, purpose, and story. When you learn to listen, healing begins.

Here are 5 ways IFS can boost your mental health:

1. Reduces inner conflict – Stop battling yourself and start understanding your parts.

2. Heals trauma – Access exiled parts with compassion and care.

3. Builds self-compassion – Your true Self becomes the calm, confident leader.

4. Improves emotional regulation – Understand where emotions come from and why.

5. Strengthens relationships – When your parts feel heard, you communicate better with others.

Your parts aren’t the problem. Not listening to them is.

“Know thyself. This ancient wisdom is more relevant now than ever. Knowing yourself means tuning in—mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

Self-awareness isn’t just insight—it’s a form of healing.

The more you know yourself, the more aligned your choices become.

Start within. That’s where the real transformation begins.”

It’s time to flip the script on how we talk about men’s mental health. Too often, boys and men are taught to “tough it out,” hide their emotions, or handle things alone. But emotional strength doesn’t come from silence—it comes from self-awareness, support, and the courage to ask for help. At East Cobb Counseling, we believe in giving men and boys the space to be strong and vulnerable, confident and curious, driven and emotionally grounded.

We’re proud to have three incredible male clinicians on our team—Shannon Mimbs, Dr. Stephen Wise, and Alex Ayvazian—who are deeply committed to helping boys, teens, and men thrive.

Shannon Mimbs brings a relatable, calming presence to his work with clients navigating everything from relationships and identify formation to anxiety and emotional regulation. Dr. Stephen Wise blends empathy with deep clinical expertise, helping veterans, seniors, adults and young men work through, conflicts in partnerships, trauma, and life transitions with clarity and strength. Alex Ayvazian connects powerfully with young adults, creating a welcoming environment for open conversations around identity, self-esteem, and the new pressures men in this era face.
