In honor of National Volunteer Week, we are highlighting one of our amazing volunteers, Laura Matlock. Below, she shares her story about the impact of volunteering:

“My father passed away in September 2025 after a brief illness and being in hospice. During his illness, I saw how important it was to him to have visitors lift his spirits. I wanted to give back in a way that mattered, and I saw a Facebook post seeking volunteers for Agape Hospice.

Little did I know my volunteering with Agape would introduce me to someone came to love as early as my second visit with her. Allie is a wonderful lady who thinks she has nothing to talk about, but somehow our visits extend into two hours before we know it, whether we are talking about her family, or I'm reading her church bulletin, or painting her nails. We laugh like two schoolgirls telling secrets on the playground. Allie will be 101 years old in July this year and wakes up every morning to put on her makeup, jewelry, and dress to impress the world.

I started volunteering with Agape to give of my time to help others - what I gained is a friendship that I never thought was possible, that probably feeds my soul more than hers. I'm not sure who looks forward to our visits more - Allie or me.”

"We knew we had found something special with Agape Hospice. Their team treated our beloved aunt like she was a family member of their own. Her nurse was so sweet, and I could tell that she really cared. The aide and chaplain went above and beyond to ensure comfort, dignity, and peace during one of the most difficult times in our lives...I can't recommend Agape Hospice enough if you are looking for a a place to accommodate a loved one's physical needs while ensuring your family's emotional well-being is addressed. I will miss seeing the thoughtful and knowledgeable nurse who my dear aunt grew to love."

World Health Day is recognized each year on April 7th to highlight important global health issues and remind us of the impact health has on every part of our lives. It’s a chance to pause and think about how we care for ourselves and others—not just physically, but emotionally and mentally too.

In hospice, we see every day how important that kind of care is. It’s not just about medical support—it’s about being present, listening and helping people feel comfortable and supported in the moments that matter most. We’re grateful to be part of that for our patients and their families. ☀️

We had a special week leading up to Easter! 🐰💛

Our team members had a lot of fun dressing up as the Easter Bunny while visiting the communities we serve—we brought a little extra joy, shared some laughs and made some sweet memories (and of course enjoy a few treats 😉).

At Agape Hospice Care, we listen, care and serve—and weeks like this are a wonderful reminder of why that matters so much.
