This is a historical decision from the CDC, and I strongly support it.
Stepping back from automatically recommending the hepatitis B vaccine for all newborns within 24 hours of birth marks a significant shift away from the long-standing “one-size-fits-all” model we’ve followed for decades.
Some of the healthiest nations in the world have taken a more thoughtful, individualized approach to early-life vaccinations, and it’s time we do the same.
I predict that this is only the beginning. I believe we’ll see additional early-life vaccines postponed, reevaluated, or even removed from the schedule altogether as the CDC continues to examine the root causes of chronic disease and reassess the true risk–benefit profile of many long-standing recommendations.
These are meaningful, intentional moves, and they represent positive progress for the health of our children and our country.
