Plantar warts are caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV) and develop on the soles of the feet, typically on weight-bearing areas such as the heel or ball of the foot.

Unlike warts on other parts of the body, plantar warts often grow inward due to pressure from walking, making them more painful and harder to treat.

They are highly contagious and spread through direct contact, especially in warm, moist environments like locker rooms, pools, and public showers.
