Happy Friday Sunrise Family!😁

Did you know babies are born with way more neurons than they’ll actually keep? During the first few years of life, the brain goes through massive “synaptic pruning,” trimming unused connections to make neural networks more efficient.

By age 2–3, a child’s brain has about twice as many synaptic connections as an adult brain — making early childhood one of the most neurologically dynamic times of life!

It’s like the brain’s own version of spring cleaning… even in the middle of winter ❄️🧹

Happy Friday Sunrise Family!😉

In honor of Black History Month, we would like to highlight Dr. Audrey S. Penn. Dr. Penn was the first Black woman to serve as a director of an Institute at the National Institutes of Health—she served as deputy director of the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) and remains an inspiring role model to many women physician-scientists to this day.
She’s an emeritus professor, neurologist and physician!

Happy Friday Sunrise Family!🥶

Did you know that in 1848, a railroad worker named Phineas Gage survived a severe brain injury when a tamping rod damaged his frontal lobe. Although he recovered physically, his personality, behavior, and decision-making changed dramatically.
This injury revealed the critical role of the frontal lobe, the part of the brain responsible for judgment, impulse control, emotional regulation, planning, and social behavior.

Gage’s case helped scientists understand that different areas of the brain control different functions, laying the foundation for modern neuroscience.

Happy Friday Sunrise Family!😉

Did you know that when you learn you're changing the structure of your brain? For example, riding a bike seems difficult at first, right? However, you get better at it as you practice. As you are practicing, your brain sends messages through pathways of neurons repeatedly which forms new connections. In fact, the structure of your brain changes each time you learn, in addition to whenever you have a new thought or memory!

Did you know?

What appears as random bursts of light when people hit their heads is actually caused by a jolt to the brain cells responsible for vision. Stars most often appear following a blow to the back of the head because that is the location of the visual cortex!

Happy Friday Sunrise Family!😊

Did you know that your brain isn't fully formed until age 25. Brain development begins from the back of the brain and works its way to the front. As a result, your frontal lobes, which control planning and reasoning, are the last to strengthen and structure connections.
