As we celebrate Nurses Week, MICNP is doing more than saying thank you. We are taking action to support our members and meet healthcare needs of our communities.

MICNP is working hard to pass Michigan HB 4399 and SB 268. Did you know there are over 14,000 licensed NPs in the state of Michigan?

NPs blend the caring of nursing with clinical expertise in diagnosing, treating health conditions and prescribing medications with an added emphasis on disease prevention and health promotion.

A lot of people assume you can’t make an appointment unless you have insurance, but that’s simply not true. Many practices offer affordable self-pay options, transparent pricing, and even membership-based models like Direct Primary Care. That means you can still get quality care, routine checkups, labs, and support for chronic conditions without going through an insurance company.

Insurance can be helpful, especially for major medical events, but it’s not a requirement to walk through our door. If you’ve been putting off care because you don’t have coverage, or because you have a high deductible policy, please don’t wait. Your health is too important.

Reach out to our office, ask about self-pay pricing, and explore your options. There may be more flexibility than you think.

It’s about time the food pyramid got flipped. Focus on real, whole foods that don’t need an ingredient list. Keep away from anything that comes in a box, bag, can, or drive thru window/carry out container. And avoid vegetable and seed oils.

A friend complained to me the other day that his daughter was “getting caught up in the supplement scheme”. True that schemes do exist. But then there is the flip side:
* given modern farming techniques, hybridization of vegetables, pesticides, herbacides have depleted our soils and nutrient content of the foods we eat
* some people have genetic variations or physiologic/anatomic, or even genetic issues that prevent them from absorbing or using to the fullest extent what nutrients they do get;
* in the processing of food ingredients (think white rice vs brown rice, white enriched flour, etc), we lose nutrients;
* Dont forget the standard American diet (aka “SAD”)—highly processed “food like stuff” that comes from a box, bag, can, or drive thru window where nutrition is totally high jacked.

That said, you cannot supplement your way out of a crappy diet or lifestyle.

Most Americans are malnourished but over-fed. Let me repeat: Most Americans are malnourished but over-fed!

You can spend alot of money and take every supplement known to man, or you can have someone with a background in reviewing lab work and symptoms recommend targeted supplement(s) which would address any nutritional deficiencies and offer some symptom relief.

We are pleased to announce that our very own Dr Pashley is joining Dr Jae Lee as a medically-trained acupuncture provider. He is following the footsteps of Dr Lee, who graduated from Helms Medical Institute in 1990. Dr Pashley recently completed the rigorous training program and graduated from the most prestigious, oldest, and largest acupuncture program in the country at the Helms Medical Institute of the University of California-Berkeley. While Marine City Medical Clinic has served the community for 70 years and Dr. Pashley has been here for 20...Nicolette Kowal, the Nurse Practitioner who has recently joined Marine City Medical Clinic, is loving the vibe of Marine City and is enjoying meeting members of our community--either at Marine City Area Chamber of Commerce events, getting out and exploring the area, or chatting with our wonderful neighbors who have been stopping in to say "hi".
