Menstrual Blood as a Reflection of Ojas
In women, Artava (menstrual blood) is considered a byproduct of Rasa dhatu( Plasma, First layer) and a reflection of Shukra dhatu(Reproductive tissue, last layer). When digestion is strong and the dhatus are well-nourished:
- Menstrual blood is bright, clean, and rhythmic
- Periods are regular, pain-free, and emotionally balanced
- The cycle reflects healthy Ojas, showing vitality, fertility, and emotional resilience

🌸Why This Matters for Women’s Wellness
This cycle is a sacred mirror. When Ojas is strong:
- You feel radiant, intuitive, and emotionally clear
- Your menstrual cycle becomes a monthly report card on your inner harmony
- Your body is capable of deep healing, creativity, and connection.

If your cycles are painful or irregular, Ayurveda can help with a holistic approach, recognizing that our cycle is a reflection of our overall health.

The Journey of Ojas Through the 7 Dhatus
In Ayurveda, nourishment begins with digestion. When food is properly digested by Agni (digestive fire), it produces Ahara Rasa, the pure essence of nutrition. This essence is then progressively refined through the seven dhatus (tissue layers), each one metabolizing and transforming it into the next. The final product of this transformation is Shukra dhatu, and from Shukra, Ojas is born.

Once Shukra dhatu is formed, it undergoes a subtle transformation—not into another tissue, but into Ojas, the essence of all seven dhatus. Ojas then circulates back through the body, nourishing every tissue, stabilizing the mind, and fortifying immunity.

When Ojas is strong, you feel:
- Radiant and grounded
- Emotionally balanced
- Immune to illness
- Spiritually connected
- Energetic yet calm
When Ojas is depleted, symptoms may include fatigue, frequent illness, anxiety, dull skin, and emotional fragility.

Ojas, a reservoir of resilience. It’s what allows you to give without depletion, lead with compassion, and heal from within.

What Is Ojas?
In Ayurveda, Ojas is considered the subtle essence of vitality, the refined product of healthy digestion, balanced tissues (dhatus), and life force. It’s the life sap that governs immunity, strength, emotional resilience, and spiritual radiance.

How to Boost Ojas:

1. Eat Ojas Building Foods
Choose sweet, nourishing, and unctuous foods that are easy to digest and Sattvic (Pure)in nature:
- Ghee (especially homemade)
- Dates, soaked raisins, figs
- Almonds, sesame seeds, pumpkin seeds
- Warm spiced milk (e.g., golden milk)
- Sweet potatoes, asparagus, rice and grains
- Juicy fruits like mangoes, pears, and pomegranates.

🧘‍♀️ 2. Practice Meditation & Pranayama
Stillness cultivates awareness, which directly nourishes Ojas. Try:
- Daily meditation (10–20 minutes 2x a day)
- Gentle breathwork like Nadi Shodhana
- Loving-kindness or heart-centered practices
💆‍♀️ 3. Abhyanga (Self-Oil Massage)
Warm oil massage calms Vata and deeply nourishes the tissues:
- Use sesame or almond oil
- Massage from head to toe before bed
- Follow with a warm bath or shower
🌸 4. Cultivate Sattva (Purity of Mind)
Ojas thrives in a sattvic environment:
- Surround yourself with beauty, kindness, and truth
- Avoid excessive stimulation, conflict, or negativity
- Engage in spiritual practices, nature walks, and creative expression
🛌 5. Prioritize Rest & Rhythm
Ojas builds during sleep and regular routines:
- Sleep by 10 PM
- Eat meals at consistent times
- Honor your menstrual cycle and seasonal transitions
🔥 6. Protect Sexual Energy
Ayurveda teaches that excessive sexual activity can deplete Ojas. Respect your body’s rhythms and use intimacy as a sacred, intentional practice.

- Ayurveda teaches us: the seasons live within us. And this one is calling us inward.

In Ayurveda, the outer world is a mirror of our inner world. As is the macrocosm, so is the microcosm. Nature’s rhythms—its seasons, cycles, and transitions—are reflected within our bodies.
Just as the earth shifts from spring to winter, our bodies move through seasons too. Monthly cycles, life stages, emotional tides—all echo the wisdom of nature.
The transition of Menopause is one such season. Often likened to autumn or winter, it invites us to slow down, turn inward, and reconnect with the Self. It’s a sacred time to digest what remains unresolved, to heal, and to reclaim our inner knowing.
This is not an ending. It’s a powerful awakening—a passage into deeper wisdom, into goddesshood, into the path of moksha, liberation.
Let this season be a celebration of your becoming.

Autumn is Vata’s playground, with its cool, dry, and mobile qualities. To stay grounded and warm, these herbs are your allies. Here are some of the best Ayurvedic herbs and spices to pacify Vata during the fall season:

Ashwagandha- I like to have this in the morning with my warm milk and spices/ cinnamon and cardamom. This helps to balance the heating quality of Ashwagandha so you don't disturb Pitta's balance. You can also have it at night before bed to help you sleep.

Tulsi mixed with Brahmi- drink as a tea in the afternoon as a grounding ritual. It helps calm the nervous system while giving you energy and clarity of mind for the rest of your day.

Dashamula Tea- one of my favorites in Fall! This will ground vata and direct the flow of Apana Vata downward.

Abhyanga: A Morning Ritual of Self-Compassion
Wonderful for the Fall Season to balance Vata Dosha

🌞 Begin at sunrise, when the world is still soft. Warm ¼ cup of your chosen oil—sunflower for all, sesame for grounding, coconut for cooling, or a dosha-specific blend. Let the warmth invite presence. I like to use Dashamula Oil for its grounding effect.

The Ritual Flow
- Crown & Scalp
Circle the crown with your fingertips. Let prana rise.
Massage the scalp as if planting seeds of clarity.
- Face & Ears
Gently trace the contours of your face.
Bless the ears—gateways to wisdom.
- Neck & Spine
Stroke the neck and upper spine.
Invite alignment, release stagnation.
- Arms & Hands
Long strokes over bones, circles on joints.
Let your palms remember their power.
- Heart & Belly
Circle the chest clockwise—honor your rhythm.
Massage the belly with reverence for digestion and intuition.
- Back & Spine
Reach where you can.
Imagine warmth flowing down the sushumna.
- Legs & Feet
Stroke downward, grounding your energy.
Spend time on the feet—your roots, your connection to Earth.
Why We Oil
- To nourish the skin and calm the nervous system
- To balance Vata and awaken lymphatic flow
- To absorb sunlight’s gifts—calcium, magnesium, Vitamin D
- To remember: this body is sacred
🪔 Let the oil sit for 15–20 minutes. Then shower gently, allowing the warmth to seal the ritual.
Bonus Tip: If done in morning sunlight, sesame oil enhances absorption of calcium, magnesium, and Vitamin D—making this not just a ritual but much more!

Key Principles to Eating Ayurvedically

Here are foundational principles to guide your plate:

1. Eat Fresh, Seasonal, and Local
Favor foods that are alive—grown close to home, in rhythm with the season. In fall, this means warm, grounding meals like stews, root vegetables, and spiced grains.
2. Cook with Love and Intention
The energy of the cook infuses the meal. Prepare food with mindfulness, gratitude, and care. It’s not just what you eat—it’s how it’s made.
3. Honor Agni (Digestive Fire)
- Eat your largest meal at midday when Agni is strongest
- Avoid cold, raw foods in excess—especially in cooler seasons
- Sip warm water or herbal teas to support digestion
-Cook with digestive spices for your body type
4. Practice Mindful Eating
- Sit down in a calm environment
- Avoid screens and distractions
- Chew thoroughly and eat slowly
- Stop before you’re full—leave space for digestion
5. Balance your Dosha or current imbalanced Dosha
- Vata types thrive on warm, moist, oily foods
- Pitta types benefit from cooling, sweet, and bitter tastes
- Kapha types do well with light, spicy, and dry foods

Less is more. The body loves simplicity. The mind tries to tell us that for something to work it has to be complex but the simplest things can bring balance and harmony to the body. The body is intelligence and when we bombard it with an overload of different information through the senses it brings imbalance because it’s just too much for the body to process. Ever look at the ingredient list for a highly processed food item?? This is a perfect example of too much information for the body to be able to transform and digest. Ayurveda takes a minimalist approach to life. If you’ve been lead to think it’s complicated it’s quite the opposite in every way:)

What does it mean to eat with Ayurvedic principles? Ayurveda looks at food through the lens of qualities and tastes and how they influence these qualities in our own body. Understanding what foods are grounding or light, heating or cooling, oily or dry helps us pick which foods will help balance our unique body type. The six tastes help in each step of the digestive process. Ayurveda promotes seasonal eating and aligning meals with the natural rhythms of the Doshas. Its optimal goal is to strengthen the digestive fire/Agni. If this view of food is intriguing learn more with a free call. Link in bio.

Ayurveda is not just about physical healing. Ayurveda takes into account all the aspects of being human, and that includes the physical, emotional/mental and spiritual/soul of a person. The complete wholeness of a person is taken into account, that is why it is holistic healing. If we are told what is best for us to heal but aren’t making that choice from a place of deep understanding and intuitive knowing then it’s not truly ours and it won’t be sustainable. The most important thing you can do is to connect back to Self where all right action stems from. From here we see clearly and know what is right for ourselves. Then we make good choices in life, we are in the flow of Life and nature works for us. Life doesn’t just happen to us when we are in the flow. All right action comes when connected to the Self. That is where true healing comes from. Ayurvedic practices lead us back to that grounded self.

What I notice most from my clients after a few visits :
⚡️they have a vibrancy and spark that wasn’t there before.
Their life force literally becomes stronger. You could say, they are returning to their natural state of being. That’s the magic of Ayurveda. Once you feel this spark you don’t want to go back to the old ways. To feel this alive and one with nature, the true source,is a gift. 🙏
