Lizzy’s journey through pregnancy and birth was filled with gratitude, emotion and unforgettable care. From her first visit to her postpartum check-in, she felt “safe, supported and deeply cared for.” 🩷

She credits Dr. Nicole Salvo, OB-GYN at Aurora Sinai Medical Center, as “by far the most exceptional provider I have ever had,” sharing that “her passion for her profession and her dedication to her patients shines through in every interaction. The level of care she provided was extraordinary. Dr. Salvo made me feel seen, heard and empowered throughout my pregnancy and birth.”

Lizzy also reflects on her experience with other Aurora team members — from the welcoming smiles at the front desk, especially Marsha’s, to the nurses at her routine visits who shared many laughs and tears with her and her husband, to the labor and delivery team: Anna, Sarah, Hannah, Katie and our CNAs. She says, “Each person touched our lives in a lasting way. I will never forget the tenderness, compassion and strength they poured into us. These women carried me through the most transformative event of my life, and I will be forever grateful.”

Now, baby Leo is 9 weeks old and thriving. “He is our sunshine boy,” Lizzy says. “I couldn’t wait to introduce him to the very team who helped bring him into this world.”

We’re honored to be part of Lizzy’s story and proud to celebrate the compassion and expertise of our Aurora teams.

Maggie, Nurse of the Year at Aurora Psychiatric Hospital, serves as a registered nurse lead at ambulatory behavioral health clinics. She demonstrates key professional practice values, notably safety and clinical excellence. She actively engages in professional development through the RN ExCEL program, shares knowledge of new treatments and leads her team effectively during changes.

“I have always been drawn to working in health care because I enjoy learning about the different aspects of human biology. I was fortunate to find myself in the nursing field where I can do what I love: teaching and advocating for patients and teammates. Each nursing role I've gone into has helped shape my professional growth, but being a preceptor has been most impactful. Since self-reflection is so critical to nursing practice, I encourage new teammates to reflect on their own practices. In doing so, I get the opportunity to reflect on my own. This allows me to see where I succeed and in what areas I can improve.”

Jordy never imagined she’d be meeting her baby more than 5 weeks early, or that she’d be doing it just two days before she planned on closing on a new home. But life had other plans, and Aurora Medical Center — Summit was fully prepared to guide her through the unexpected with skill and compassion.

From the moment she arrived at Aurora, Jordy felt supported. The NICU team stepped in with calm expertise and genuine care, helping ease her fears about her premature baby’s health and the unknowns ahead.

“I was nervous about having my baby in the NICU for a long period of time,” Jordy shares. “But the nurses were reassuring, and I knew instantly that my little guy was in great hands.”

Over the next three weeks, Jordy visited the NICU daily, forming close bonds with the nurses who cared for her son. She specifically credits Kelly, Melissa, Kim and Stacy, not just for their clinical skill, but for their warmth and expertise.

“They spent so much time with my son, and it was obvious they sincerely cared about him,” she says. While facing such uncertainty, Jordy credits the team for their clear communication and support. “They were all such great people to talk to during those extremely long days.”

Thanks to their expert care, Jordy felt confident bringing her baby boy home. Today, Zane thriving. He’s gaining weight steadily, feeding and sleeping well and adjusting to life with his big sibling. “My little guy is doing great. And I’m so thankful he was in their care.”
