We are urging all of our customers to stay weather-aware and take precautions to protect your pipes - including lawn or commercial wet sprinkler systems.

Here's the latest forecast for when we expect to see accumulating ice. These time windows do not mean icing will be continuous, but longer time windows over northern counties could lead to more ice accumulation.

Because we provide essential services to our community, we go through a detailed audit every year to make sure we’re being open, honest, and responsible with our finances. This year, the audit was completed by BW&C Certified Public Accountants. 🧮

We’re proud to share that BW&C gave us an Unmodified (Clean) Audit Opinion — the highest rating we can receive! This means our financial records are accurate and we’re managing our resources the right way. Keeping everything running smoothly is a team effort all year long, from top to bottom. 🧾

This month, our Board recognized the hard work and attention to detail shown by:

👏🏼Gina Buntin – Controller
👏🏼Heidi Schnell – Senior Accountant

We also celebrated Utility Technician Matthew Valenzuela for earning his Texas Class D Water License! 💧

Our employees truly live out our mission to provide reliable, sustainable, clean water through professional and dedicated service. We’re proud of them and grateful for their commitment to our community.

❄️National forecasters are predicting a sharp drop in temperatures for our region over the next 7 days- including the arrival of an Arctic front that could send temperatures into the teens and bring potential freezing rain and ice to parts of South-Central Texas.

As temperatures fall, now is the time to protect exposed outdoor pipes, insulate indoor vulnerable areas, keep a slow drip on indoor faucets 🚰, open cabinets for warm airflow around pipes, and know how to shut off your water. 💧

01/08/2026

The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) is the state agency responsible for water planning, data collection, and financing water-related infrastructure. TWDB develops the State Water Plan, oversees regional water and flood planning, and provides loans and grants for projects such as drinking water systems, wastewater treatment, and flood control.

TWDB also gathers and distributes critical information on drought conditions across Texas, helping communities and utilities plan for water shortages and manage resources effectively.

How does this impact Green Valley SUD? Special utility districts and water supply corporations often use TWDB programs like the Drinking Water and Clean Water State Revolving Funds to finance improvements. TWDB conducts environmental reviews for funded projects and ensures compliance with state and federal standards.

These programs allow districts to access low-cost financing for infrastructure upgrades, expansions, and conservation initiatives.

According to the National Integrated Drought Information System (NIDIS), “Drought ranks third among environmental phenomena associated with billion-dollar weather disasters since 1980, behind tropical cyclones and severe storms.”

With drought predicted to persist or develop this month, some of the key issues for agriculture are production losses and decreased water availability. For more detailed information on how drought impacts Texas agriculture and water supply, check out https://www.drought.gov/sectors/agriculture and https://www.drought.gov/states/Texas.
