You might have heard the term "practice yoga off the mat."
But what does that really mean?
Most of us show up to yoga class for 75 minutes, get our sweat on and then go right back to living our lives.
And if that’s how we practice, we’re missing the point of the practice entirely.
You might know that yoga has an entire philosophy for life behind it.
The physical practice is just a tiny part of a much bigger system for living an aligned, awake life.
And THE first tenet of yoga philosophy (as outlined by the yoga sutras of Patanjali) - the one that sets the tone for all others is:
DO NO HARM. Ahimsa.
Do no harm to others. To the planet. To all living beings. To yourself.
And yet, every day on the internet I see people who claim to "practice yoga" being mean to each other in the comments section, tearing each other down and being judgmental AF.
Essentially, not practicing Ahimsa at all.
So here’s my reality check for you today ⤵️
How are you living your yoga off the mat?
Are you taking the teachings and applying them to your life? Or are you only making fancy shapes with your body?
The easiest way to practice yoga off the mat is this: don't be an as***le :)
PS, I’m not saying this like I’m better than you.
Sometimes I’m an as***le too, and I get to remind myself that what we put out in to the world MATTERS, and the impact we have on one another is real.
If you’re ready to dig deeper into your yoga practice and understand what it means to live your yoga - not just stretch your body- my No Bullsh*t Yoga Philosophy Course will show you how.
