What do Venus Williams, Lupita Nyong'o, Bozoma Saint John, and countless other women worldwide have in common? They’ve bravely used their platforms to share their personal stories and raise awareness about a uterine health issue called fibroids.
Maybe you’ve read about these women, or you know others who have come forward to share their experience with the condition. In the U.S, nearly 70% of white women and more than 80% of Black women will have uterine fibroids by the age of 50. And most U.S. women will develop fibroids in their lifetime.¹ Unfortunately, many wait years to seek treatment for disruptive symptoms. Why is that the case for such a common health concern? An article from Newsweek sheds light on some reasons why.
Women who suffer from heavy bleeding and pelvic pain—and are told their symptoms are normal—might not know that those could be signs of fibroids. And if they are diagnosed, a hysterectomy may be the only treatment option they're offered.
Our goal is to empower women to speak up for better care. If your period is negatively impacting your life, or you have fibroids and want to know about uterine-sparing procedures, we're here to help.
