The Acessa™ System For Treatment of Uterine Fibroids
Fibroids are a real pain, causing heavy periods, bloating, and more. If you suspect you have uterine fibroids or have already been diagnosed with them, the Acessa® procedure is a treatment option that lets you keep your uterus intact. The medical term for the Acessa procedure is laparoscopic radiofrequency ablation (Lap-RFA). Essentially, the doctor delivers heat directly into the fibroid causing it to shrink over time and, in turn, relieve your symptoms. Most patients are cleared to go home within 2 hours and are usually ready to return to work after 4 to 5 days. As with any medical procedure, there are potential risks to consider and discuss with your doctor when making your treatment decision.

Fibroids 101: Did you know not all are the same?

The type and location can impact the symptoms you experience and your treatment options. Here's a breakdown:

🌹 Pedunculated: Connected by a stalk-like stem
🌹 Subserosal: On the outer uterine wall
🌹 Submucosal: Inside the uterine cavity
🌹 Intramural: Within the uterus walls

Not all fibroids cause symptoms or need treatment. But if you're struggling with heavy periods, pain, or other issues, talk to your doctor. There are minimally invasive treatment options that allow you to keep your uterus.

Choosing to have a hysterectomy is a big decision. We understand if you feel discouraged to hear it's your only option for heavy periods.

Meet Leslie Billinglsey, who suffered from bleeding and pain that made it hard for her to leave the house. Repeatedly hearing a hysterectomy was her only option left her feeling hopeless.

Far too many women are put in a similar position, and they deserve to know about other choices.

Leslie asked her doctor about the NovaSure® endometrial ablation, a non-hormonal procedure. It's designed to leave the uterus intact by removing just the uterine lining, which is the part of the body that can cause heavy periods.

Leslie found relief, and you can, too. To learn more about the NovaSure procedure, visit: https://ow.ly/i3Wx50X5fhl

Do you feel like everyone around you is pregnant or recently had a baby, yet you're struggling to conceive? Uterine fibroids could be part of the problem.

They can affect¹:
🍼 Whether s***m and an egg meet
🍼 An embryo's ability to implant in the uterus
🍼 Growth and positioning of a baby

While fibroids don’t always reduce fertility, it's worth asking your doctor about the possibility. Even if you're not trying to conceive, there are other symptoms to watch out for. Fibroids can also cause heavy periods, pain during s*x, and frequent urination.

When it comes to treatment, you have options. The Sonata® procedure is an incisionless, non-hormonal solution for symptomatic fibroids.

If you’re struggling with symptoms of fibroids, know that you’re not alone. Up to 77% of women will develop fibroids in their lifetime.¹

The condition is often misunderstood, which is why conversations about it are so important. We're grateful for all women, including those in the public eye, who have spoken out about fibroids.

Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) and uterine fibroids: what are the differences?

📌 PCOS is an imbalance of reproductive hormones that can cause problems in the ovaries. Some symptoms include irregular periods, abnormal hair growth, obesity, and cysts.¹

📌 Fibroids are almost always noncancerous growths in or around the uterus. Not all women with the condition have symptoms, but those who do might experience heavy periods, pelvic pain, frequent urination, and bloating.²

While it's possible to have PCOS and fibroids simultaneously, one diagnosis doesn't mean you have the other condition.

Our Story and FAQ

Dr. Bruce Lee’s fibroid patients all had the same concern. They didn’t want a hysterectomy or a myomectomy. They wanted a better option for them. And he agreed.

It just so happened around the same time, Dr. Lee was evaluating a new technology designed to treat liver-cancer- radiofrequency ablation. After pouring over thousands of pages of research about the science behind radiofrequency ablation, he wondered, if this can be used to shrink liver tumors, could it work for fibroids too?

It did. The Acessa procedure has transformed from a patient’s wish to a reality that is changing the standard of care for fibroids.
