🚨 Online Training for First Responders

The First Responder Deflection: A Warm Handoff to Services in the Community eCourse (1.5 hours) is now available online for first responders!

Deflection initiatives are being implemented nationwide to connect individuals with substance use disorders to treatment and services — without arrest. This training introduces deflection as a collaborative, problem-solving approach involving law enforcement, EMS, fire, treatment providers, and community partners.

Also known as pre-arrest diversion or co-responder programs, deflection emphasizes a community-centered “warm handoff” — helping those who have experienced an overdose or who struggle with substance use connect directly to care and recovery.

This course provides:
🔹 Background and purpose of deflection
🔹 Five key deflection pathways used in communities
🔹 Real-world examples from across the country
🔹 Resources to help start or strengthen local deflection initiatives
🔹 Guidance on evaluating and sustaining your efforts
