"Addiction Iceberg," a visual representation of how addiction may develop. A small portion of 'visible' addiction is above the surface, while the majority of the underlying causes remain hidden.
Visible behaviors: The tip of the iceberg includes observable actions like mood swings, compulsive drug use, process addiction, weight changes, and drinking.
Hidden causes: The greater submerged portion represents the deeper issues and root causes that drive these behaviors.
Underlying factors: These hidden factors include pain, loneliness, childhood trauma, low self-worth, abuse (physical, mental, emotional), intrusive thoughts, lack of motivation/sleep, anxiety, and feelings of grief and loss.
Fully addressing addiction almost always requires leaving no stone unturned and looking beyond the visible manifestations to heal the deep seated underlying emotional and psychological issues. by Addiction Actually 2025.
