The average person uses about 50 sheets of toilet paper every day. That calculates out to about 100 rolls per year and about 50 pounds of TP per year.

To some extent, your TP usage can give clues to bowel health. Someone who barely needs to wipe after a bowel movement may be constipated.

F***l Fact Friday 💩: Many people p**p in the morning, not just those that drink coffee! After a nighttime of working silently to process and digest the food from the day before, the colon starts the day by contracting harder to get rid of the waste.

The gastrocolic reflex is also responsible for easier p**ping right after a meal. The muscles in the colon squeeze and contract harder to empty.

The bottom line: regular schedules can help with regularity, and our bowels love regularity.

For our children with constipation, try to keep the following as regular as possible to maximize the chances of daily complete emptying at the same time:

1) Schedule extra time in the morning and after each meal so the child is less stressed and more relaxed and likely to p**p.
2) Maintain fluid intake.
3) Maintain similar intake of fiber, fruits and vegetables.
4) Take supplements at the same time every day and don't make any drastic changes.
5) Regular sleep schedules.

Especially when it comes to our kids, medical interventions can sound extra scary. Fortunately, when it comes to "urotherapy," there is no need to be scared. Urotherapy is a crucial and standard first step for many children with bladder and bowel incontinence.

Urotherapy is a word that represents simple non-invasive bowel and bladder re-education to address incontinence:

1) Family and Child Education
2) Manage Constipation
3) How much and how often to drink fluids (and what types of fluids!)
4) Urination Schedule
5) Toileting Posture
