Congratulations!!
Negaunee Public Schools Hall of Fame 2025 Inductee: Michael Grossman, M.D.
After graduating from the University of Toledo Medical School and completing his Family Practice Residency in Saginaw, Dr. Michael Grossman sought to become a small town doctor where he could make a significant contribution to the community in which he settled. This dream became a reality when he moved to Negaunee in 1980 to join the Twin Cities Medical clinic as a Family Medicine physician. For the next 40 years, Dr. Grossman specialized in Family Medicine, Hospice and Palliative Care and became well-known throughout the community for the high standard of care and compassionate attention he provided to his patients. Upon retirement from his primary practice in 2020, he shifted his focus to Hospice care and addiction treatment services. As the Chief Medical Director of U.P. Home Health and Hospice and the Medical Director of Great Lakes Recovery Center, Dr. Grossman remains dedicated to making a difference in our community.
His dedication to NPS began when he moved here, when Dr. Grossman took on the role of team doctor for the Negaunee High School football team, and intermittently for the boys basketball and hockey programs. Known by many as “Doc,” he has provided calm and confident care to hundreds of student athletes over four decades of NHS football. His loyal presence on the sidelines of both home and away games was a comfort to coaches, athletes, and their parents whenever an unfortunate injury would strike. In addition to his role with the Miners’ football program, Dr. Grossman held sports physical clinics each year to ensure NMS and NHS athletes were ready for athletic competitions. Since 1980, Dr. Grossman has made generous monetary donations to the Negaunee All Sports Booster Club generated by the fees collected from those clinics. Season after season, he went above and beyond in his commitment to the Miners’ athletics programs to ensure the safety and well-being of student athletes. He and his family have also been generous donors to several student groups and are proud sponsors of the annual NHS Environmental Scholarship. NPS is fortunate to have been the recipient of such loyal dedication and generosity. His contributions have certainly played a major part in the success of Miners athletics and academics over the years.
Dr. Grossman’s community service is not limited to Negaunee Public Schools. In 2004, he established the Swim Teal Lake - Benefit for Diabetes fundraiser. The money raised at that annual event provides juveniles living with diabetes the opportunity to attend summer camp. Additionally, Dr Grossman was named the Negaunee Elks Citizen of the Year and the State of Michigan Family Practice Physician of the Year in recognition of his dedication to the health and well-being of the Negaunee community.
Even with his full professional life as a busy physician, Dr. Grossman has always made time to support the students and community of Negaunee. His compassionate care and philanthropic actions have impacted thousands of lives, in all stages of life and circumstance. We are proud to welcome Dr. Michael Grossman to the NPS Hall of Fame and thank him for his dedication to our town and school system. Congratulations Dr. Michael Grossman!
