Today we wrapped up our celebration of National Skilled Nursing Care week with spring floral!
We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you Amanda from the Marquette Food Co-op for the wonderful presentation and delicious smoothies this morning! Thank you to Jim Pennell for providing music during our ice cream social!
A special thank you goes to Iron Bay Restaurant & Drinkery for the generous gift cards that brought smiles to our staff each day during the daily raffle!
Most of all, to our staff, residents, and families; your compassion, resiliense, and sense of community are what make the Norlite community a special place every day. Thank you for all that you do and for making this week truly memorable. 💐❤️

We were in for double treats today with Girly Pop and visiting Norlite! Both residents and staff enjoyed some yummy food and sweet, fun drinks! A huge thank you to both businesses for coming in to celebrate National Skilled Nursing Care Week with us!

🎉 May Teammate of the Month – Tomo Ervick! 🎉

Please join us in congratulating Tomo Ervick on being named our May Teammate of the Month! 👏💙

Tomo has been a valued member of the Norlite team since February of 2022 as one of our amazing Hospitality Aides, and formerly as a CNA. Her compassion doesn’t stop here—she also works at a local daycare, caring for children on the opposite end of the age spectrum. Talk about versatility! 😊

This is Tomo’s second time earning Teammate of the Month, and it is incredibly well deserved.

A huge thank you to for the coffee donation and U.P. Home Health & Hospice for the pizzas! We are feeling caffeinated, celebrated, full, and loved!

Medicare Advantage Reform: Why It Matters to Our Residents

At Norlite, our priority is simple: Dignity. Healing. Community. Every Resident. Every Day.

But behind the scenes, there’s a growing challenge families don’t always see—delays and denials from Medicare Advantage plans that can impact access to care, therapy services, and recovery timelines.

A new bipartisan proposal in Congress—the Medicare Advantage Improvement Act of 2026, introduced by Mariannette Miller-Meeks and colleagues—aims to address these concerns by:

• Requiring faster prior authorization decisions (in some cases within 24 hours)
• Ensuring plans follow standard Medicare medical necessity guidelines
• Increasing transparency around denials and appeals
• Holding plans accountable for inappropriate delays or restrictions

For the residents and families we serve, this could mean:
✔️ Fewer delays in starting therapy
✔️ More predictable care planning
✔️ Less administrative burden during already stressful times

We see firsthand how important timely care is—especially during recovery and rehabilitation. Policies that support efficient, patient-centered decision-making are critical to better outcomes.

We’ll be following this closely and remain hopeful for meaningful progress.

Community Partnership in Action 💙❄️

During one of the most significant winter storms our region has seen in years, Norlite experienced an unexpected equipment issue that required a temporary heating solution. Thanks to the strength of our local partnerships and coordinated response systems, the situation was quickly addressed with professionalism and care.

We’d like to extend our sincere gratitude to the Marquette County Emergency Operations Center—especially Lyn Nelson—for their outstanding coordination and communication throughout the response.

We’re also incredibly thankful for the team at Midway Rentals, including Dave Caster and Joe O'Dovero, who ensured timely access to and setup of temporary heating equipment under challenging conditions.

And a special thank you to Ferrellgas—particularly Tom Kidd—for helping secure the fuel supply needed to keep everything running smoothly.

Because of these coordinated efforts, we were able to maintain a safe, comfortable environment for our residents throughout the duration of the storm.

We’re proud to be part of a community where organizations come together, even in the toughest conditions, to support one another. This is what partnership, preparedness, and dedication truly look like.
