But what if it all works out?

Many of my clients know that I am training for the biggest race of my life, the Marji Gesick duathlon which is dubbed as the "worst of both worlds" at the "hardest single-day mountain bike event."

Some of my clients know that I suffered a back injury a month ago during a strength training session. "Training" has looked a lot different over the past month. I experienced loss of appetite due to pain, medication side effects, and having to advocate for timely care.

These are things that I help my clients with daily. These are things that we troubleshoot and then we celebrate when things get better.

I welcome you to celebrate with me. Your effort isn't useless because it looks different.

A little support station recap from yesterday.

We welcomed 15 riders who are tackling the 500+ mile Point to Point course of The Crusher. The weather was wet and cold with rain from 4pm onward. You smiled, you laughed, you snacked, you resupplied, you allowed us to support you and you carried on. Keep crushin' P2P riders. We'll see you in Copper Harbor!

"I'm hungry," says my youngest.

It's 10pm, two hours past bedtime on the 3rd night of solo parenting. We had already brushed teeth, winded down, eyelids were heavy, and were almost ready for bed. Or so I thought.

My adult brain did not want to get up to get him a snack. I did not want to brush his teeth again. But I also didn't want him to go to bed hungry.

So I got up to get the snack he requested. I turned the television back on and sat with him while he ate. I walked back to the bathroom with him so that he could brush his teeth a second time. By the time I came back to bed after bringing his bowl to the kitchen, he was fast asleep.

The more you can act on your body's cues like hunger and fullness, the more reliable they are. We are all born with the instinct to signal to others that we are hungry and stop eating when we are full. Don't be the reason that your kid loses that instinct.

My kids think I am famous. It's often that we see someone out in the community or on the bike trails that I know. I have laughed off the idea of it until Friday night. Friday night at Marji Gesick Camp before my chance to speak about nutrition at the campfire talk, instead of introducing me, Todd Poquette asked folks to raise their hand if they DIDN'T know me. Only one or two folks raised their hand and in that moment, I FELT famous.

We talked about the importance of a nutrition plan for an event like Marji and the majority of the time was spent answering questions. Blame the Nerd Cluster gummies that I was passing out but I got a lot of questions from kids. Not just your generic questions, like REALLY good questions. How should I manage my electrolytes and hydration during a ride? What should I eat before a ride if I have a hard time eating? What should I eat the morning before a race?

These questions lit a fire in me that I didn't know I needed. I've been thinking a lot about how to help folks understand the nutritional needs of active kids. It's time to make something happen - the kids are watching and listening!

Campfire Talks. Dawn from Restore Ease talking nutrition tonight.

Ever wonder what you'll hear if you ask a fellow Marji Gesick camper to share their snacks?

We put together a food packing guide for camp so that you don't have to find out. Link below in the comments.

This week brought us to Interlochen Center for the Arts with something that has been in the works since the spring.

It was such an honor to present to their Health Center staff on detecting & supporting students with eating disorders.

When the presentation emphasized how important modeling is to these students, the topic of the self-support bike races that our practice supports came up. One attendee raised their hands and asked, "Was it The Crusher?"

And it absolutely was. Along with the reminder that everything is connected and community is everywhere; you just need to look for it.
