The100DayProject Awaken, nurture and sustain your creative spirit though the cultivation of small daily acts for 100 Welcome to the 100DayProject site! See where it leads.

This site is intended to awaken, nurture and sustain your creative spirit though the cultivation of small daily acts for 100 days! "If creativity is a habit, then the best creativity is the result of good work habits. They are the nuts and bolts of dreaming." -- Twyla Tharpe, The Creative Habit

How do you start? Decide to do a 100 day project. Pick a start date -- and an ending date 100 days lat

er. Then do one thing a day for 100 days (mornings are especially good). Do something quick, creative, and do it without fear. Don't think too much, or better yet, don't think at all! Hang the pieces up in your house -- watch them grow! The project then takes on a life of its own. That's it in a nutshell!

Coming Full Circle -

We love that T.S. Elliot quote. Its wisdom is often encountered in art making, right?  When a piece is finished, we often find seeds of a new beginning in it.  And so, we move on to the next creation, absorbing the learning and inspiration from the work that came before.  That’s how we grow as...

Welcome to Spring! -

The Out of the Darkness into the Light project began during the darkest time of the year.   Since then, we’ve been witnessing the growing daylight as we move into this miraculous season of Spring.  We have also watched our work evolve as we navigated through periods of stagnation, stops, restar...

Nourishing Ideas -

Sometimes we think our thoughts are unworthy, our ideas uninteresting, and our desires unnecessary.  While thoughts like these likely trouble all of us, it is doubly so among those of us in the arts. It is like doubt on steroids.

Flow -

Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi is a psychologist who recognized and named the psychological concept of flow, a highly focused mental state conducive to productivity.  He talked about 9 elements of enjoyable work.  These 9 elements describe how it feels when an experience is enjoyable.  This is a fantast...

Noticing -

A big part about developing a creative habit is about noticing. Often these are small, quiet things. Other times they are eureka moments.  One is not better than the other – it’s all good.  Our job is to pay attention – and stay open and aware.   Noticing these fleeting moments is ...

Play -

There is an old Sanskrit word, lila, which means play. Richer than our word, it means divine play, the play of creation, destruction, and re-creation, the folding and unfolding of the cosmos. Lila, free and deep, is both the delight and enjoyment of this moment, and the play of God. It also means...

The Perfect Cup of Coffee -

The seed of your next art work lies embedded in the imperfections of your current work." - David Bayles, Ted Orland Art and Fear

Vigilance -

I have a feeling that sooner or later I shall arrive at something legitimate, only I must begin, not with hypotheses, but with specific instances, no matter how minute. If I then succeed in distinguishing a clear structure, I get more from it than from a lofty imaginary construction. And the typi...

Being Stone Stupid -

When we sit down each day and do our work, power concentrates around us. The Muse takes note of our dedication.  She approves.  We have earned favor in her sight. When we sit down and work, we become like a magnetized rod t hat attracts iron filings.  Ideas come.  Insights accrete."  - Steve...

Be Like a Tracker -

Hello Everyone!  We don’t know about you, but for us focus and concentration are more challenging in these pandemic times. Pre-pandemic, our experience of focus was like a laser beam, vision and action were clear and aligned.    During these times however, we sometimes feel untethered, more eas...

"X" Rarely Marks the Spot -

Hello Everyone!  The Solstice Project is a creativity excavation. Archeologists also excavate, screening and removing a lot of soil before recovering small artifacts.  Similarly, our creative practice is also a journey of discovery that’s messy, indirect and takes time and effort.    In our ...
