Getting orders filled is often a hassle, especially on a weekend. I had to scramble to get a lab order in over the weekend and I am so happy to see what happens when people are patient and helpful and kind. Nice reminder that even the small parts of the job can be rewarding 😊

Today I performed my 500th robotic surgery! To reach this goal after barely 5 years in practice is something I’m very proud of. I’m also feeing very grateful to my patients and everyone who has helped me along the way at Surgical Clinic of Louisiana and West Jefferson Medical Center, especially my #1 scrub, Lindy Fasola Fontenot 😊

I don’t reflect enough on how lucky I am to do what I do, but earlier this month I was very fortunate to welcome some of the staff from Surgical Clinic of Louisiana into my operating room!

Yanetsy, Brandy, and Kasey are my foundation and my support system in this busy job, and I’m so grateful they came to see the fun part that they make possible!

Great article/podcast from The Daily by NY Times about the dangers of medicine becoming more about profit and less about patients, particularly how physicians are affected when they’re forced to render inadequate care to meet productivity goals. Sadly, this is becoming more common in American medicine, especially as private equity gets more involved in healthcare.

I’m lucky to be in a busy, successful private practice where I get to make my own goals and provide each patient the requisite amount of attention. We also enjoy a good relationship with a hospital system, but this article helps me not take that for granted and to always make the best decisions for my patients, not for someone else’s bottom line.

Great episode of The Daily about the new recommendations on childhood obesity from the American Academy of Pediatrics. Gratefully acknowledging the risks of obesity, the genetic (uncontrollable!) causes, the success of aggressive treatment (including surgery!!), as well as the unfair stigma faced by children with excess weight. Worth a listen!

In the past year, Surgical Clinic of Louisiana has performed over 400 weight loss procedures. We have helped patients lose thousands of pounds, improving health, mobility, and quality of life. I am grateful for all the hard work that these surgeons, nurses, staff, and patients have done, and I‘m beyond excited for our potential to grow. 😊

Had to make the trip to Baton Rouge to watch signing SB 150. This legislation codifies Louisiana state employees’ access to bariatric surgery - a huge step in the right direction for treating obesity in our state!
