I have spoken to two of the other former presidents and it seems that this society is currently inactive. If you would like to do Madison County research please visit the Marshall library or OBCGS. Both have great reference libraries. Also, please consider joining OBCGS (I am membership secretary). Madison County falls within the 'Old Buncombe County' region. OBCGS is very active (even during the pandemic) and publishes books and a quarterly journal that will be mailed to you. You can check us out at www.obcgs.com

My new book :)

Many family history researchers with roots in Western NC also find connected families living in Kentucky. This new book may have information you’ve been seeking.
The Davis/Davidson and Biggs families of Clay County, KY, by Rich Nallenweg (2020).
This book documents the Davis/Davidson family that lived in Clay County, Kentucky from about 1850 to the present day, and the Biggs family that lived in Clay County since about 1843. This book is really two separate books: one for the Davis/Davidson family and one for the Biggs family. Two for the price of one! It includes 5 generations of families. Families include Davis/Davison, Biggs, Reid, Jackson, Holland, Smith, Eversole, and Benge. The surname Davidson was used by George and his descendants, but at some point, they began to use the surname Davis and his descendants use the surname Davis today. The Davis/Davidsons lived all over Clay County, including: Otter Creek and Manchester. They also lived in Knox County, KY for a short time. Each person is fully documented with sources, references, and documentation. This includes family stories, pictures, military records, census records, property, birth, death and marriage records, etc. The 72 page book is fully indexed and available to order from our eBay bookstore, https://www.ebay.com/str/obcgsbookstore

A book about family history is always a great gift for that family member or friend who’s interested in their ancestors’ lives and communities. Rich Nallenweg has published The Haskett Family of Macon and Madison County NC, documenting the Haskett family that lived in Western NC from about 1850 to the present day. The book includes 8 generations of the Haskett, Johnson and Keener families. Many of the Hasketts fought in the military and their service is well documented. The Hasketts moved to Western NC from East TN and lived in Pasquotank County, NC before that. They lived in several Macon County communities, including Cullowhee, Webster, Mill Shoal, Ellijay and Mountain Grove. In Madison County they lived in the Walnut area. Each person is fully documented with sources, references, and documentation. The book features family stories, photographs, military records as well as census records, property, birth, death and marriage records. The book is fully indexed and is 75 pages.
