Would you mind getting off my business page? That is worse than rude, and I hope your mama taught you better! This is your POLITE notice...

Well, it finally happened. Since the Pennsylvania Massage Therapy Board has decided not to accept online courses for the license renewal requirements, I will not be licensed after January 31st, 2023. It seems I could have asked for a waiver two months ago, when I didn't know to ask.

Since I have had no clients since early 2020, this is not a hard adjustment. Thank you to all my friends and supporters! I have learned so much from each of you! It has been my joy to work together with you.

I will maintain this page for a while and then let it go. Blessings in our future! See you on the other side of Covid.

Still not practicing massage, still about Covid. Let me explain.

Since the first days of the pandemic, before we even knew what to do, I knew I had to protect my clients by not spreading infection. That's easy. Act like I have a cold and cancel appointments.

But as we learned more, I realized how much danger there is for my high risk family member with pre-existing conditions. It's as though Covid was designed to attack all the "weak points" of his medical history. So, since early 2020...

I see seven people regularly. I live with two. I visit one. I talk to four of them from four feet away, masked or outside. Those four are unvaccinated.

Five out of seven are high risk, as in they could wind up among the three or more hundred people a day who die of covid with pre-existing conditions, vaccinated or not.

I shop with a KN-95. I see medical professionals. I eat take-out in the car or at home, not in restaurants. No movies, museums, programs, community groups, nothing. It's okay. I am adaptable.

This has been going on for almost three years.
Am I still a massage therapist? Of course! I have kept up all my licensing. I am still learning and interested. In forty-five years I have not burnt out.

Can you be an exception and get just one tiny massage? Not a chance. I love my work, I miss my clients and friends, and I'm truly sorry.

This too shall pass. We will have a great story to tell all the days of our lives. It's okay.

See you on the other side!

Well, we are getting closer to the end of the pandemic and the restart of my massage thetapy business...but not yet. My high-risk family member is still at risk of being one of those "fatal breakthrough cases with pre-existing conditions." Also two covid variants are moving through Europe and Asia toward us. Here comes another wave, so I have to say "Sorry, not yet." See you on the other side of all this!

Still not providing massage, still about Covid-19.

This time it is Omicron variant is sweeping through the world. Israel, England, Australia, Canada: the countries that thought they had Covid-19 controlled are overwhelmed once again.

Vaccinations and boosters limit death and severe immediate illness, but Omicron reinfects those who had Covid before and even the most vaccinated and boosted can get Covid and long-Covid. It is disabling more and more people worldwide. Our county and our region have the highest infection numbers we've seen yet in the pandemic.

Obesity is the number one danger, and aging is the other. I and most of my clients have both! I have an even higher risk family member. So far, we have stayed safe. So far.

Omicron has aerosol transmission, is still often asymptomatic, and is far more "catchy" than the other variants so far. It's worse because it's harder to "do no harm" if I start working again.

So, not yet. It's not over until it's over.
See you on the other side.

Delta variant is sweeping through the world. Israel, England, Japan, Australia: the countries that thought they had Covid-19 controlled are overwhelmed again.

We have high-risk family members, and most of my clients are high risk.

The short answer: No, this Covid-19 thing is too weird, and I don't like it.

To my waiting clients:

Let me explain why I am not opening my massage practice, which specializes in helping seniors

In my forty-plus years of providing massage therapy, I have never had to worry about making others sick, since I reschedule every client if I have a symptom. I learned "universal precautions" for cleanliness when it was first developed to deal with HIV-aids, and I keep up those standards in my massage practice. My clients are caring people who reschedule if they feel sick, so that others are kept safe.

But this time, we can pass Covid-19 around when we feel healthy, when we recently tested negative, and when we are taking every known precaution. I don't know how to protect you in your own home, if I bring a hidden virus with me. I don't know how to protect my family and myself if you are unknowingly a carrier.

I grew up before most vaccinations. Polio vaccines didn't happen until I was in grade school. I caught most of the childhood diseases although my son was protected from most of them. I totally get how "isolating and waiting" can slow an epidemic -- that's the only protection we had as children. Those diseases were centuries old, but the school kids didn't have "herd immunity." If we were exposed, we caught it.

My clients are almost all high-risk. So am I, and so are most of the people I meet in "normal life." I don't know how to get back to "normal" without risking the health of the people I care about. So, no "new normal" for me, or for my massage clients. I can't open until I have some idea about how to "Do no harm."

I am not afraid, I am careful. I expect answers to come. Until then, please take care of yourselves.

See you on the other side!

Just a gentle reminder: As our county moves to reopen under "Yellow" guidance, massage therapy is still specifically prohibited (because I can't work from six feet away or over the phone.) Thanks to the clients who hoped for appointments! Keep slowing the spread, and I'll see you on the other side.
