I strongly advocate for this! I am concerned about the emphasis on low weight and being 'skinny' among menopausal and postmenopausal women. As we enter the last third of our lives, it's crucial to focus on building strength, including bigger muscles, increased bone density, supported connective tissue, and intact cartilage. Frailty is not attractive; don't let social media influence your perception. Hormone replacement therapy can mitigate the risk of osteoporosis and sarcopenia. Your scale cannot distinguish between muscle and fat!

I had the privilege of attending the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine Conference, which offered substantial insights into breast cancer prevention via treatment of metabolic syndrome/insulin resistance, increasing muscle mass for longevity, and why we need the 4 “P”s (posse, passion, play, and purpose) to live a long happy life. I can’t wait to bring this new learning back to my patients!

Empowering women to thrive during menopause starts with understanding their unique needs. While some may experience estrogen dominance, often linked to excess belly fat, others may be more sensitive to the mood swings caused by progesterone or the hair loss and irritability linked to testosterone. That's why a one-size-fits-all approach falls short (ie hormone pellets 👎🏼). Choose a Menopause Society Certified Practitioner who crafts personalized plans based on individual health histories.

Some patients recently asked me what supplements I am using for my perimenopausal symptoms. I am in no way endorsing anyone particular product but these are a few that I have decided are helpful.
Collagen: studies have shown women lose 30% of their collagen in the first five years after menopause. Collagen in a powder formula is superior to all other forms in terms of absorption. There are individual collagen peptides that may be better for women. Fortibone is a collagen peptide that is specifically helpful for bone formation. Verisol is another collagen peptide isolate that is used primarily for skin, hair, and nails. I will warn you that products that isolate the specific collagen peptides are more expensive and there is still benefit with using the general mix.
Creatine: this is used to rapidly regenerate ATP, the body’s main energy currency in our cells. Often we think of it for muscle building, but it is now thought to improve brain function as neurons require high levels of ATP for signaling and neurotransmitter packaging. For cognitive health you only need 2 g of creatine per day.
Nutrafol: I originally started these vitamins after a major hair shedding event. It was primarily stress-induced due to eight family member’s cancer diagnosis.. High stress/trauma = rapid hair loss (FYI). I have remained taking two a day as this vitamin/supplement blend has all of the vitamin D that I need as well as marine collagen, Ashwaganda, Vitamin A, C, E, and several antioxidants.
Magnesium Glycinate 200 mg: not shown. I do find this supplement extremely helpful before bed to improve sleep as well as promote normal bowel movements for this gal with constipation-predominant IBS. Magnesium glycinate at 400 to 600 mg is also very helpful for migraine headache prevention, which can flare in the perimenopausal period.
So these are some of my favorites, if you have any supplements that you feel have been helpful for you, please let me know in the comment!

Menopause is one of the most significant neurological transitions in a woman’s life.
As estradiol levels decline, the brain must adapt in ways that can influence memory, energy metabolism, and long-term cognitive resilience. Paying attention to this window matters.
Key brain health principles during midlife include:
➡️ Prioritizing sleep quality and circadian rhythm
➡️ Supporting metabolic health through daily movement and nutrition
➡️ Reducing chronic inflammation and insulin resistance
➡️ Managing stress, which directly affects brain immune signaling
Understanding what’s happening in the brain allows women to make informed, proactive choices rather than feeling caught off guard later.
Please come speak to me if you have any questions about how to be proactive vs reactive!
