It’s Su***de Prevention Awareness Month — and it’s stories like mine that need to be shared. I struggled with suicidal ideation in my teens. I didn’t feel safe in my body, home, or community. When I tried to share my darkest thoughts, I was often shamed or dismissed. I was fed words that killed my self-esteem and told I wasn’t capable — and that I’d always need help.
Education was my way out. I worked hard in school so I could leave, go to college, and start a new life. I lost myself in books and music to keep going. In college I began my healing: I met kinder people, found supportive relationships, and set reachable goals. I also worked on a farm — growing vegetables and selling them at the local market. That work with soil and food gave me the connection, meaning, and care I desperately needed. Farming, community, and purpose saved my life. It inspires my work today at AZ Farm & Wellness and my hope to bring horticultural therapy into schools as I pursue my MS in School Counseling.
For years the pieces didn’t make sense. Only recently did they come together. If you don’t yet know what you’re meant to do, start with healing. Follow what feels good. Get involved in things you enjoy. Those small feel-good steps will guide you toward the gift buried inside you. I know it — because I’m living it.
If you are here: you matter. Your life matters. You have so much love and potential to give this world. Don’t give up until you find it.
If you are in the U.S., call or text 988 for the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline. If you are in immediate danger, please call your local emergency number.

Cooking with fresh produce is true wellness for both body and soul. This week, I enjoyed a homemade peach crisp made from the peaches on my own tree—sweet, simple, and perfectly seasonal.
🍑 What’s your favorite farm-to-table dish?

Every time I harvest from the garden, I feel grounded. 🌿 The texture of the soil, the colors of the veggies, the rhythm of the process — it reminds me that wellness takes patience, presence, and appreciation for the small things.
The best part is I get to share these good feelings and practices with my son. Try noticing one small detail in your surroundings today and appreciate it.

Let me provide some revelation for you.
Pain has been my greatest teacher. I consider now a friend. Pain is physical and pain is emotional in shame, guilt, anger, fear and even grief. Pain is a feeling that promotes violence, lack of responsibility, and lack of accountability when its lessons are ignored. We are seeing so much of it expre...
