New on the Blog! Why Food Alone Isn't Enough for Optimal Nutrition for Children and Adults. Let us know your 'aha' moment after reading it!

When I asked a group of health professionals for vitamin suggestions for my two-year-old, I expected practical ideas.

Instead, I heard the same old line:

“You don’t need supplements. Food is all you need.”

As a mom, and as someone who’s studied wellness and nutrition for years, that answer didn’t sit right. Because even when we do everything right — grow food, eat organic, cook from scratch — we’re still working with a food system that isn’t what it used to be.

The truth is, our food today is less nutrient-dense than it was even a few decades ago.
Modern farming practices, long transport times, and grocery chains prioritizing appearance over nutrition all play a role.

🌱 Soil depletion has reduced the minerals in our produce.
🍓 “Fresh” fruits and veggies can lose nutrients days before reaching your plate.
🥬 Lighter-colored store produce often contains fewer antioxidants than its darker, richer counterparts.

That means both adults and children can eat balanced meals… and still fall short on key vitamins and minerals that support growth, mood, immunity, and brain health.

This isn’t about fear — it’s about awareness.
Food should be our foundation, but in today’s world, we often need additional support to bridge the gap.

That’s what I explore in my latest blog post:
“Why Food Alone Isn’t Enough for Optimal Nutrition — Especially for Children (and Adults Too).”

I dive into soil depletion, nutrient loss, and the connection between earth health and our own well-being — backed by science and written from the heart.

October has been about honoring and celebrating how far we have come in our journey.

I started coursework to obtain my MS in School Counseling- an emotional and physical journey that took me two years to get here. My son turned two and has grown into the intentions I set before he was born. I got really clear on my infertility journey on what I wanted for my child. I wanted my child to be strong in mind and body, especially if they had inherited my Osteogenesis Imperfecta, develop a love for learning and reading, be emotionally intelligent and resilient, be kind, loving, and a protector of nature and life on Earth.

My intentional actions have been lots of emotional and physical work and with it lots of joy at the unfolding.🌿 Take a moment today to honor and celebrate your emotional progress this month — no matter how small.
