New on the Blog! Why Food Alone Isn't Enough for Optimal Nutrition for Children and Adults. Let us know your 'aha' moment after reading it!
When I asked a group of health professionals for vitamin suggestions for my two-year-old, I expected practical ideas.
Instead, I heard the same old line:
“You don’t need supplements. Food is all you need.”
As a mom, and as someone who’s studied wellness and nutrition for years, that answer didn’t sit right. Because even when we do everything right — grow food, eat organic, cook from scratch — we’re still working with a food system that isn’t what it used to be.
The truth is, our food today is less nutrient-dense than it was even a few decades ago.
Modern farming practices, long transport times, and grocery chains prioritizing appearance over nutrition all play a role.
🌱 Soil depletion has reduced the minerals in our produce.
🍓 “Fresh” fruits and veggies can lose nutrients days before reaching your plate.
🥬 Lighter-colored store produce often contains fewer antioxidants than its darker, richer counterparts.
That means both adults and children can eat balanced meals… and still fall short on key vitamins and minerals that support growth, mood, immunity, and brain health.
This isn’t about fear — it’s about awareness.
Food should be our foundation, but in today’s world, we often need additional support to bridge the gap.
That’s what I explore in my latest blog post:
“Why Food Alone Isn’t Enough for Optimal Nutrition — Especially for Children (and Adults Too).”
I dive into soil depletion, nutrient loss, and the connection between earth health and our own well-being — backed by science and written from the heart.
