🍂 Residents and staff at Avera Morningside Heights are embracing the best parts of autumn with a weeklong Harvest Festival! Yesterday, they crowned Harvest Festival royalty—congratulations to King Stanley and Queen Marilyn 👑. Residents also enjoyed lively music by John Beck. The fun continues with tomorrow’s farm implement parade at 10 a.m., plus fall-themed crafts, games and more all week long. 🎶🚜🎨

Visit the We Care, Pink Hair table at the Minneota volleyball game tomorrow night and get a pink or purple hair extension for just a $10 suggested donation. Pink symbolizes the fight against breast cancer, while purple honors all cancer survivors. Every dollar raised will help support patients and families at the Avera Cancer Institute.

Residents at Avera Morningside Heights are excited to enjoy a farm implement parade next week — and we’d love your help to make it special! Farmers and tractor enthusiasts: bring your tractor or farm equipment (new or antique, green, red, blue — all are welcome!) and parade past the facility on Wednesday, Sept. 24, at 10 a.m. so residents can reminisce about life on the farm. After the parade, join residents and staff for an apple pie social!
Parade route: Enter the parking lot near the corner of S. Hill St. and E. Marshall St. Drive by the Morningside Heights entrance and proceed to the parking lot at the corner of Bruce St. and E. College Dr. Staff will offer participants a ride back to Morningside Heights for the pie social.

Congratulations to Jamie, Lexi, Maria and Nichole! These nurses from our Marshall and Granite Falls teams were among those from across Avera who recently graduated from our organization's Rising Nurse Leader program. This six-month program helps nurses expand their capacity to assume a titled leadership role in the future. Selected participants met monthly from March through August. Learning is built around the Avera Leadership Competencies and the American Nurses Association curriculum.

With teachers and support staff from SW/WC Service Cooperative and Advance Opportunities, interns learn transferable job skills working alongside employees in multiple departments across Avera Marshall. We are so thankful to the Kompelien family and everyone who took part in the Crushing Clays for Cancer in July. The Kompelien family organized a clay shooting event in memory of their loved one, Rob, and raised over $6,000 to support hospice care for families in our local community. Given the success of this year’s event, the family has already set a date for next year: Aug. 22,2026 at Shooters Sporting Clays outside of Marshall. Dr. Gangemi is a board-certified general and robotic surgeon, a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and also has extensive teaching and research experience. In addition to performing procedures like colonoscopies, upper endoscopies and appendix and gall bladder removal, he has a strong interest and experience in robotic surgery and upper GI surgeries.
