October 16 would have been our 3 year anniversary in our sweet little office in downtown Marshall. We had a wonderful practice offering bodywork, acupuncture and herbal consultations to the community. Our team is comprised of 4 amazing practitioners who care so deeply about the health and wellness of our clients. Although we have been displaced from our office we are still doing the good work! We have discovered unique ways to plug into the community with our gifts. Phillip and I are offering mobile massage and participating in volunteer projects to help our greater community.
All hope is not lost!! We want to rebuild and have our sights set on that horizon. There is opportunity for regrowth and strength out of this loss and there is wisdom to learn. We are not necessarily starting over to bring our dreams into reality, we still have our gifts and a blank canvas to build upon. I continue to find immense gratitude in our current situation. ๐Ÿ™

Thank you so much to Lindsay Montgomery & Nicole Willis for inviting us to Madison Middle School to give chair massages to the teachers. It was wonderful to meet so many kind educators in the community and work along side another caring massage therapist from Asheville, Brandon. I feel so much gratitude for the mutual support that we were all able to give each other during these times.
If you know of a local organization or business who would like to host a chair massage day at the office, please reach out! (770) 601-4871

Today we set up a wellness tent at Nanostead in Marshall. This location seems very accessable right now as it's the starting and ending point for volunteers, food and donations.
We have free services: massage and bodywork, mental health and grief counseling and wellness tinctures.
The outpouring of donations for financial relief have been incredible and will help me to continue providing volunteer services for my community. This fills my heart with happiness so much. If you want to help in this way, this is my Venmo: https://venmo.com/code?user_id=2024903570096128794&created=1728095392
I love my job!! Thank you so much!

Why do I move the way I do? Why do you? Why do we?

I'm old enough now to look back at the past decades of my life and notice patterns. Patterns innumerable, about relationships, emotional responses; origins of habits, defenses and responses. And specific to this post, patterns of my body's movement.
As an adult I discovered weight lifting [๐Ÿฅน, swoon], crossfit and strength competitions. In the beginning, I had very little body awareness and no idea how to access certain muscle groups necessary to perform the movements-like squeezing my glutes (think Nacho Libre in his tight pants). Over time, working with my coaches and personal trainers, I gained awareness, strength and tone in my muscles.
Over many hundreds of hours of training a pattern of movement was being grooved into my fascia. A pattern specific to the nuanced movements required to perform weight lifting. Even to this day, 6 years after my last competition, my body still remembers how to move the way I trained it to move. My inner voice still gives me the mental cues for bracing, breathing and firing.
It's incredible that we can train our fascia, brains and muscle memory! The implications of such power is that we can build our physical bodies to look, move and behave in certain ways intentionally.
We're already doing it every day unintentionally. The nuanced ways that we move through the world are influenced by our past and present experiences. Those ways are the most appropriate and efficient ways to encounter the world- from our perspective. It's amazing and brilliant that our bodies are so responsive!
But what happens when the way we are moving no longer serves us and causes us pain and discomfort? What can we do?

We must intentionally teach our bodies a new way. Yes, it takes instruction, patience, time and concerted effort. You don't have to do it alone and it can be fun! In fact, I think it becomes more ingrained into the body if it's enjoyable because releasing "feel good" hormones signal safety, comfort and wellness to our nervous system. I have so much passion for creating and facilitating these kinds of changes in bodies. There's a way for everyone!

Someone asked me recently, "What kind of bodywork do you do?"
I tend to have a hard time answering that question off the cuff. Perhaps because I've been a bodyworker for so long, it's just become a part of who I am in the world, a healer.
So what exactly do I do anyways?
The answer is dependent on who's asking.
Sometimes I give the dry response of, "I provide therapeutic massage techniques to people who have pain in their bodies. I work with clients who typically have muscular injuries, pain and range of motion issues. I'm the person who folks seek out when they are getting no relief or improvement anywhere else. I can help them understand the cause of the pain and we'll go from there. I use NMT, deep tissue, swedish, stretching, etc. techniques..."

Sometimes I give the weird answer of, "It's like I have little cameras on my fingers and when I touch a client's body, I am given so much information about what's going on inside! I can easily navigate the body and discover pain patterns very quickly. I speak to the body and it tells me what I need to know and what to do to help it heal."

I don't usually talk about how much time I spend obsessing over and reading about the way the body & mind process emotions together and how our past emotional experiences can get stored in our bodies, affecting us physically and causing us indescribable pain and chronic ailments that no one can seem to diagnose. -Even the stress of everyday life can lead to dis-ease and pain in our bodies.
I've spent all of my adult life [and almost half of my entire life] pursuing and discovering different ways to speak to the body through my hands so that the body will show [us] how to release these emotions and causes of pain and suffering. I communicate to the body through the movement of the fascia, collagen and muscle fibers, on a microscopic level. The language of the body is so nuanced, I'm learning every day with every person I'm honored to work with.
So if you ask me what kind of bodywork I do, I might stare at you blankly as I try to assemble a response that makes any sense in the language of words. I talk best with my hands- to the body. ๐Ÿ–๐Ÿ––

Clinical Massage Approach

Clinical Massage is a collection of massage techniques that focus on improving conditions that have been diagnosed by a physician. But you donโ€™t need a note from your doctor to benefit from the pain relief offered by clinical massage.

My passion is to help individuals understand, manage, and eliminate the pain that theyโ€™re experiencing in their bodies.

I take into consideration the daily practices of my clients and their goals; we decide together the bodywork approach that fits their unique physical needs. This plan of treatment can include dietary changes, physical exercises and emotional awareness along with the bodywork modalities that I specialize in.
