Fitzgibbon Hospital Responds to Threat

On Thursday evening July 31, Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall received a bomb threat. The hospital implemented emergency response protocols, and ultimately the hospital was cleared. Patient safety was not compromised, although the facility was on lockdown for a period of time.

Administrators on call and Chief Information Technology Officer Tom Jones, who leads Emergency Preparedness at Fitzgibbon, worked with area and state emergency responders to determine the legitimacy of the threat. Bomb dogs went through the entire facility and perimeter.

“I want to thank everyone in our organization who worked closely with area emergency responders to resolve this concern. Fitzgibbon has protocols in place to handle such situations, although we hope we never have to use them,” said Angy Littrell, President and CEO of Fitzgibbon. “Leaders within our hospital were prepared for a possible evacuation of the hospital, but that was not necessary. Patient and staff safety is always our first priority.”

Keuhn, Dodds Lauded for Providing Outstanding Patient Experience
The Hero Award program is unique to United Healthcare and recognizes health care professionals for achieving high patient experience scores

Two of Fitzgibbon Hospital’s employed providers were recently recognized for excellence in patient satisfaction by United Healthcare.
David Keuhn, M.D., from Mid-Missouri Family Health, and Brenda Dodds, DNP, from Marshall Family Practice, were recognized for earning the United Healthcare “Hero Award” for achieving high patient experience scores on their patient surveys. Only 2.7% of providers in the state of Missouri had patient experience scores high enough to earn the award. This equates to only 131 providers of the more than 4,900 who had survey data evaluated.
“Dr. Keuhn and Brenda Dodds consistently provide excellent care for their patients. We regularly receive comments from their patients about the quality of their interaction and communication. It is nice to see this well-deserved recognition for them,” said Angy Littrell, President and CEO of Fitzgibbon Hospital, which owns and operates both of the clinics named.
To qualify for the award, surveyors polled United Healthcare patients following visits to their providers. The questions on the survey covered ease of appointment scheduling, ease of receiving a referral for specialist care, the ease of receiving prescription medication renewals, up-to-date health information made available to patients by their provider and follow-up communication after lab, radiology or other diagnostic testing.
