GREEK SALAD! Ok, so not very American, but this is what I’m bringing to our holiday celebration today! 🦃 A perfect fit for some turkey on the side.

Greek Salad.

- roasted small potatoes (sliced)
- chickpeas (rinsed and drained)
- chopped onion
- cherry tomatoes (sliced)
- chopped red & green peppers
- kalamata olives
- chopped cucumbers

Dressing:
- tzatziki
- red wine vinegar
- extra virgin olive oil
- basil
- garlic powder
- Himalayan salt/black pepper to taste

I planned ahead, and made the roasted potatoes for our dinner on Tuesday night. 😉💥

I might overeat but at least some of it will be good for me! 👊🏻🥗

THE SECRET TO CONSISTENCY! 🗝️ It might not be what you think it is… 😳

Research even shows that the control over consistency in working for a healthy body isn’t motivation. 🚫

It isn’t even willpower. 🚫

And, no, it isn’t MORE TIME. 🚫

Consistency comes easy for people that concentrate their goals around:

- being healthy 🥗
- seeking peace ✌️
- looking for relief 😅
- emotional regulation ☺️

Maybe, if we could all just focus on how we feel, instead of how we look…. Things might just come together. 🥰

Today, I got my workout in early so I could concentrate on babysitting my granddaughter the rest of the day.

My goal was to move my body so I felt energized, happy, and motivated for the rest of the day. 👊🏻💥☺️

Yoga can be POWERFUL 💪🏻, CALMING ☺️, and DYNAMIC.

Most people think of yoga as just stretching and saying weird sounds. 😂.

Not true.

Incorporating some power yoga is my key to strength training this week. And, I only need a yoga mat and an amazing view. 🏝️

Between some power yoga and sprint training, my days are filled.

Alcohol can help you fall asleep with its calming effect, but don’t let it fool you…. 😬😳

Alcohol in your body suppresses REM sleep, which has many side effects, like

🍻Fatigue
🍷Irritability
🍸Poor memory
🍹 Difficulty concentrating
🥂Emotional issues
🍾 Impairs your brain
🍺 Limits detoxification
🥃 Encourages poor health decisions

NON-FUNCTIONING. This pic was taken during the 1 1/2 years I wasn’t functioning. I call it my “non-functioning year”, even when it was longer than a year.

Why non-functioning? Because after my dog attack and my hormones went to hell (or I should say - I went through hell), I was literally not functioning.🤕

- I was terribly sick. 🤒
- I couldn’t sleep longer than 4 hours a night. 😴
- My hair was falling out. 😳
- My eyes dried up. 👀
- I experienced hot flashes/night sweats. 🥵
- I found out brain fog is a real thing.🧠
- I lost myself, completely

It took me and my functional doctor to find what worked for me.

Take my advice….Don’t wait. Finding a functional med doc was the best thing I ever did.

I’ll give you one example. The last bullet point, I mention that I lost myself. I really did. I wasn’t me anymore. I was empty, lifeless, Joy-less (pun intended).

My functional doctor did an organic acids test on me and found out that my serotonin was off. It made sense, the happiness hormone was depleted due to my cortisone spike from the dog bite.

She put me on a simple supplement and amazingly, a couple of weeks later, I started to “feel” again.

Sometimes, it’s that simple!

So, don’t wait it out. You don’t have to…

UPFs! 😡If you don’t know what they are - educate yourself.

Ultra-Processed Foods… 🤢

- tops of the list for gut inflammation
- causes diabetes
- causes obesity
- causes heart disease
- increases risk of cancers
- tied to brain diseases
- low in fiber & nutrients
- high in sugar, salt, & additives
- are highly palatable and not satisfying

These foods are so processed, that they shouldn’t be considered food anymore.

The biggest trick? They label it as “organic” and all of a sudden consumers think it’s good for them or their kids.😳

They are not!

Think of things like chips, crackers, candy, pasta, pizzas, packaged meals, soups, processed meats, instant oatmeal, sodas, energy drinks, breads, baked goods, flour mixes, American cheese, and so much more!

Your best option? Make food from scratch using foods that have not been altered from their natural state.

For example: 🍎 an apple off of a tree is a whole food, but apple juice is processed. 🍏

Be smart. Be healthy. Be safe friends.

I’M WEIRD! Yeah, I’ve been called “weird” or “strange” many times. Comments or remarks because I try and live healthy…most of the time.

I’m weird for:

- waking up early (usually 5am)
- going to bed early (I try to be in bed by 8-8:30)
- not drinking alcohol (I will occasionally)
- refusing to eat fast food 🤮
- being the mom that didn’t have the “good” junk food 🤦🏻‍♀️
- lifting weights🏋️‍♂️
- for being a freak about my health!

How have Americans become so far removed from cooking real food? Or actually walking through a grocery store? What about even walking outside (yes, even when it’s cold)?

Why are all these healthy habits considered weird now?

Maybe I’m not the weirdo?! 😳😬🤷🏻‍♀️
