It is with profound love and deep honor that we share the presentation of the Erika Schmidt Memorial Gift to Guiding Star Marshalltown.
This donation totaling over 1,900 dollars was made possible through the generosity of Erika’s friends and relatives, along with Christmas gift-giving dollars redirected in her memory. The memorial funds were formally presented on Monday, January 12th, at our Annual Public Meeting.
Erika tragically passed away on December 11, 2025, at the young age of 52 after a devastating and rapid battle with Influenza A, a journey of just three weeks and two days from a scratchy throat to loss of life. There were no underlying health issues; her lungs were simply attacked. Like so many, her loved ones never once thought she would not recover.
In true reflection of who she was, Erika’s final unselfish act was becoming an organ donor, continuing to give even after her passing.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Carolyn and Ken Anderson, as well as all of Erika’s loved ones, whose generosity made this gift possible. We are certain that many families had a very Merry Christmas because of Erika’s forethought and enduring compassion.
After living in Omaha for nearly 30 years, Erika returned to her hometown of North Platte, Nebraska. During her time in Omaha, she played an important role in the early stages of Bethlehem House, a safe haven offering care and support to women in crisis before, during, and after childbirth.
We are confident that Erika is smiling down with approval at this contribution to Guiding Star Marshalltown in her honor.
Her infectious personality was captivating, a shining light, a friend to all, and she is deeply missed. We wish God’s speed as she journeys to her final resting place, carrying with her a legacy of love, generosity, and service that will continue to bless others.
