MARSHALLTOWN company once again provided unbelievable generosity in providing Christmas gifts to our young people in our transitional living and aftercare programs. Each youth provided a wish list of items they needed and their fabulous staff delivered! Coats, towels, pillows, games, clothes, shoes, household items, numerous personal care items…even some ice fishing equipment to help a young person continue their wintertime hobby. Aftercare youth - those who have aged out of Iowa’s foster care system - along with the homeless served through our transitional living program, were incredibly grateful to receive such treatment. Our staff case managers were especially happy to deliver these items personally to make the holidays much more merry. As one appreciative young person said as she opened her presents, “my family hasn't given gifts in six years”.

MPACT was happy to participate once again with Shop With A Cop. We helped make Christmas a little merrier for many Marshalltown families. A huge thank you to those who support this annual event!

Stacy Kelley and Tawnya Dawson and our fabulous partners at MARSHALLTOWN company cooked and prepared over 30 Thanksgiving meals for our young adults in our Transitional Living and Aftercare programs. Each meal was complete with turkey, ham, salad, sides, fruit, and a dessert. Our program participants are very grateful for a traditional Thanksgiving meal, many of which have no connection to family.

Huge thanks to our wonderful partners at JBS for sponsoring a coat drive with our Marshalltown Police and Community Team advocates. The collaboration collected 86 gently used coats for men, women, and children that our agency and team encounter. Through October, 28% of MPACTs call for service have involved a homeless person or family. In addition, 21% of the calls our team have responded to were mental health related. As MPACT provides ongoing assistance and short term case management after the initial call for service, 68% of their follow ups involve a homeless or mental health situation. Many of those encountered by the team do not have adequate outerwear for the upcoming winter season. Thank you JBS for your outstanding effort!

Our young adults in our Transitional Living Program, lead by Case Manager Jamie Smith, made homemade nutritious dog treats for our downtown neighbors at the Paw Spa. They bagged up the treats, went next door, and introduced themselves to the spa staff. The treats were labeled with the ingredients – all natural – and provided an engaging experience, including Lucy Tupper anxiously awaiting her snack. Giving back feels great!

Madelyn and Molly from PCA, Packaging Corporation of America, recently dropped off a gift to support our operations. Marshalltown's PCA is one of over 120 facilities across the US. Their commitment to community outreach is helping to build stronger communities locally and across the nation.

Volunteers are a force multiplier here at YSS. They assist us in many ways behind the scenes. We are appreciative of the Marshalltown Lions Club for sorting and organizing items in our donation center as well as cleaning the toys in our family room.

MPACT is expanding! We will be adding an advocate to our team as we increase our reach throughout Marshall County. This week is National Co-Responder and Crisis Responder Week! We’re proud members of the International Co-Responder Alliance. Together, we all work to improve behavioral and mental health outcomes for our communities. Through August, Tiffany and Suzy have responded to 151 calls to assist 336 people. In addition, they’ve provided 395 follow up visits with 625 people. Please congratulate them for their efforts! If you’re in the area, stop by the police department and visit with them about their unique service. We hear they do their best work when fueled by coffee and snacks. 😉
