Exciting developments in reducing pesticide exposure among farmers! A recent study applied the Intervention Mapping approach to design effective interventions that enhance protective behaviors and PPE usage. By conducting thorough needs assessments and culturally tailored programs, we can truly make a difference!

The randomized trial involving 201 farmers demonstrated the power of targeted education and resources. Let's prioritize farmer safety and environmental health together!

Research from Saskatchewan reveals vital insights into shoulder injury risks in farmers! Comparing humeral kinematic variability between lab settings and real-field tasks, this study highlights how authentic environments may present unique movement demands.

Understanding these differences is crucial for improving safety measures and designing effective training/rehabilitation programs. How do you think we can bridge the gap between simulated and actual farm work? https://doi.org/10.1080/1059924X.2025.2540579

🚜🌾 A recent scoping review highlights the vital role of culturally responsive evaluation in improving occupational safety for immigrant farmworkers. These workers face unique challenges, from communication barriers to lack of medical support. NIOSH's Ag Centers aim to address these issues, but diversity complicates impact assessment.

Embracing culturally sensitive evaluation approaches can bridge gaps and enhance effectiveness! Let's prioritize the well-being of vulnerable populations and create safer work environments across agriculture. 🌾✨ At the recent CASA conference, experts emphasized the power of personal stories in promoting farm safety. Farms are risky workplaces, both mentally and physically. 📊 While statistics inform us, real-life experiences resonate deeply! 🤝 "Stories matter—they can drive policy change," says Bryan Weichelt from NFMC. Let’s share our tales to make farms safer for everyone! 🌟👩‍🌾👨‍🌾 Find media stories of farming incidents at www.aginjurynews.org

Fall is here and it doesn't feel as hot -- therefore your body might not feel as thirsty, however, keep drinking water often. Drinking water is critical to your health and productivity. Also, make sure youth working on the farm are also drinking enough water. Many will want to drink soda and energy drinks because they "taste good," and "give more energy." But it is important for adults to teach the importance of drinking water to youth during all times of the year. www.cultivetesafety.org

Women who are or are planning to become pregnant should be careful working with or around farm chemicals. Carefully read the manufacturers' labels and health warnings and consult your doctor before coming into contact with any pesticide, herbicide, or fungicide.

“Be very mindful of anything you’re working with,” Rose-Davison said. “You have a right to access labels if you’re an employee. If you have to use the chemicals, take the time to understand the risks and the safety protocols.”

While farm safety is important for every family member and worker, expectant moms have even more hazards to consider.

It is hard work being a mom, and a mom on the farm can be even more challenging! To ensure safety on the farm, mothers should prioritize designated, safe play areas for children, separate from hazards like machinery and water. For themselves, they should wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), stay rested and hydrated, and use caution with chemicals and confined spaces. For both personal and family safety, creating clear farm rules, teaching children how to interact with animals and equipment safely, and ensuring everyone knows how to get help in an emergency are crucial. www.cultivatesafety.org
