Transition into the Fall Season with Ayurveda with Melissa McKim

Sunday, September 14th, 2-5pm

According to Ayurveda, the seasonal transitions can aggrevate Vata (either and air elements) causing the body and mind to become off balance. Learning how to change our diet and lifestyle naturally, in line with the upcoming season, can help us stay in balance.

In this workshop you will learn the dominate gunas of Vata season and how to mitigate signs of imbalance; learn the concepts of an Ayurvedic cleanse known as a monodiet to stimulate agni (digestive fire); take a agni and ama self test to determine what spices are best to use for your cleanse and what contributes to accumulation of toxins (ama) and how to remove it. We will also cover dinacharya (daily routines that can help pacify the doshas and cleanse our sense organs).

A 3 day supply of kitchari basics will be supplied along with a personalized spice mix.

This 2 hour workshop incorporates Restorative Yoga and Reiki, a combination that will guide your mind and body to a deeper state of relaxation. Breathing and meditation techniques to calm the mind and props will be used to allow for a gentle, passive stretch. No experience necessary. This is a “no work” workshop. What a great way to introduce someone new to yoga. Come pamper yourself with a total mind/body escape.
What is Reiki? Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation. It is administered by “laying on hands” and is based on the idea that an unseen “life force energy” flows through us and what causes us to be alive. If one’s “life force energy” is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy. A treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you. Reiki treats the whole person.

Prop Lab - Deepening Your Asana with the Chair

In this class, students will utilize a chair as a prop to stretch deeper in a safe and effective way. Yes, a chair can be used if you struggle with the ups and downs in a vinyasa and if you have any physical ailments that challenge your balance... but it can also be used to vary and deepen postures. My favorite is gate pose (parighasana) using a chair to deepen the stretch of the adductors.

For teachers and students, teachers can receive CEUs.
