Avoid inserting cotton swabs deep into your ear canal. While it may feel like cleaning, using cotton swabs or other objects can actually push wax deeper, cause irritation, or even damage the delicate structures of your ear, including the eardrum. Your ears are naturally self-cleaning — wax gradually moves out on its own, carrying dirt and debris with it.
