Martinsburg Renew

Martinsburg Renew Raising awareness about SUD, & Recovery. June 21 &22, 2025 join us for our 2nd Annual A.T. Fundraising Hike.

Currently we have two annual fundraising events: September 28, 2025 will be our 3rd Annual Drug Addiction Awareness & RECOVERY Concert/Event. We are a non-profit organization raising awareness and funds to help people with SUD (Substance Use Disorder) in the Eastern Panhandle of WV. Our primary focus is on helping those in recovery with their transitional process back to independence. We work with other local and government resources to provide information and resources to assist in this challenging situation in our community. We encourage churches and individuals to embrace this important work and help provide much needed support. Ultimate goal is to provide a transitional living facility to help those going from recovery to independence. Emotional and Spiritual support through prayer and conversations

The National Low Income Housing Coalition’s 2026 Gap Report highlights a nationwide housing crisis: the U.S. is short more than 7 million affordable rental homes for households with the lowest incomes. Put simply: no state has enough affordable housing.

In West Virginia, the gap is clear:
📌 There are 54,816 extremely low-income renter households in our state.
📌Only 30,029 rental homes are affordable and available to them.
📌That leaves a shortage of 24,787 homes.

That means there are just 55 affordable homes for every 100 extremely low-income renters in West Virginia.

Because of this shortage, 81% of extremely low-income renters in WV are cost-burdened, and 63% are severely cost-burdened, meaning they spend more than half of their income just to keep a roof overhead.

When housing is this out of reach, families are forced to make impossible choices between rent, food, medicine, transportation, childcare, and other such necessary life expenses. This results in many facing eviction, housing instability, or homelessness.

Affordable housing is homelessness prevention.
West Virginia needs more homes that people with the lowest incomes can actually afford.

A trip to the park and enjoying the sunshine is a simple reminder of how peaceful life can be. The warmth on your skin, the fresh air, and the quiet sounds of nature help clear your mind and lift your spirit. Moments like that slow everything down and make you appreciate where you are, just being present and grateful for the day.

Our Story

Martinsburg Renew is a grassroots ministry focused on building up the community by giving everyone opportunities for enrichment. Our hopes are to build a giant network that will make sure that everyone who needs or wants an opportunity for enrichment (be it recreational activity, social opportunity, employment, or addictions counseling) can be directed to the appropriate agency/organization. Where certain initiatives and programs don't exist, we plan on providing them. Our driving vision is to establish a Martinsburg Interwoven Community Center. The center will incorporate three facets: a business canter, a social center, and an addictions treatment center. This will offer economic development, community development, and recovery. The Interwoven Mills site is over seven acres and offers a campus environment that will be able to house all of these initiatives while keeping them separate when necessary. The three facets are described as follows: 1) A business center that will focus on bringing attention to Downtown Martinsburg, revitalizing the economy from the center out. It will also give small, local businesses the opportunity to present their services and products risk-free. 2) A social center that will provide activities and information to people of all ages. The Martinsburg Social Center will provide teens and young adults with recreational activities for free. It will coordinate community organizations so that people can get information and all the help available to them. 3) A substance abuse treatment center. The Interwoven Life Treatment Center will focus on those gripped with addiction in our community. It will be a year-long, faith-based, residential program. Based on numerous successful models, it will not only try to break people free of addiction, but help them shape themselves into productive citizens who have earned the right to be readmitted into society.

In the meantime, we hope to connect with other community organizations and work with them as they continue to impact our communities, organizations such as HART, Mountaineer Behavior Health, and local churches. As of September of 2018, we have been on a hiatus as we are continuing to pray to seek God’s guidance as to our place in the community and our direction with the ministry. Founder: Andrew J. García
