You are not lazy! 🙅‍♀️

It can be so easy for us to call ourselves lazy when we’re not doing something. In reality, there are many reasons why we aren’t able to do that something. Fatigue, anxiety, depression, executive dysfunction, pain, loneliness, being unsure where to start, etc

Society teaches us that if we are doing anything other than being ‘productive’, then we are lazy. But this fails to recognise many aspects of human diversity, abilities and health conditions that impact our lives

This societal assumption can cause us to shame ourselves and to be unaware of the aspects of who we are that might be affecting us. Simply put, I don’t believe that ‘lazy’ exists. What does exist is mental health problems, neurodiversity, disability, chronic illness, etc

Shaming ourselves doesn’t help us to move forward, in fact it can make us even more overwhelmed. Please try to be gentle and kind with yourself 💜

[ID: An illustration of a sky with two rainbows in it and clouds. Text at the top of the image reads “you’re not lazy, you’re:”. Illustrations represent text, such as a battery for fatigue, cloud for depression, pills for pain, a flare for anxiety, brain for executive dysfunction, unsure face for afraid, question mark for unsure where to start, sad face for overwhelmed and speech bubbles for lonely.]

WV Medicaid must now cover gender affirming care!!!!

🚨 HUGE NEWS: Our friends at Lambda Legal took WV Medicaid to court because state officials refuse to cover gender-affirming care for transgender people. Yesterday, a federal judge ruled that Medicaid must cover this care!

So what does this mean for patients? We're still working to find out how this will affect our community and how soon patients will see changes. As soon as we know more, we'll post more updates here and on our website. If you run into trouble with WV Medicaid covering gender-affirming care, please reach out to us by email at info@fairnesswv.org.

In the meantime, don't forget about our Trans Health Guide! We made this statewide guide to help folks find competent, compassionate health providers. Whether you're looking for gender-affirming care or just looking for a new primary cary provider, our guide may be able to help you out.

Local Mental Health

My name is Nicholas Trietsch and I am a licensed clinical social worker and therapist for Nurture & Balance.

My experience is local to the eastern panhandle and includes community mental health with substance use and persistent mental health differences, foster care and adoption with children, adolescents, birth families, and blended families; domestic violence and child trauma; and at a local mental health private practice working with children, adults, and families from all walks of life and challenges.

There are a few things that make us different from other agencies in the area. Our modalities are strength-based, culturally sensitive, feminism-informed, and based in non-judgement. I enjoy working within the different gender and sexualities. I support folks who are transitioning and have concerns with gender identity, gender expression, and sexual orientation. www.nurturebalancewv.com
