We invite the community to a Fentanyl Awareness Day Event tonight at New College Institute - Baldwin Building.

During this event, we will be screening a documentary that follows three people —a firefighter, a judge, and a nonprofit leader—as they work on the front lines responding to opioid use and overdose. The film highlights both the realities of addiction and the strength of community response.

This screening will be followed by a panel discussion and memorial ceremony remembering and honoring those we have lost to overdose.

Join us tonight as we express a shared commitment to remembering, learning, and supporting one another as a community.

Please note that this film may not be suitable for young children.

Do you have unwanted, expired, or unused medications sitting in your medicine cabinet? Bring them to the National Drug Take Back Event this Saturday from 10am - 2pm to be properly disposed of. This is a drive through event!

Permanent drop boxes are located at the Martinsville VA Police Department and Henry County Sheriff's Office for medication disposal year round.

National Prescription Drug Take Back Day

Henry County Sheriff’s Office and the Drug Enforcement Administration Team Up for the 30th National Prescription Drug Take Back Day

On Saturday, April 25, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., the Henry County Sheriff’s Office and the Drug Enforcement Administration will host the DEA’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day at locations across the country. The DEA and its partners will collect tablets, capsules, patches, and other solid forms of prescription drugs.

For sixteen years, the DEA’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day has helped Americans safely dispose of unneeded medications—those that are old, unwanted, or expired—to prevent drug misuse and abuse.

Take Back Day offers free and anonymous disposal of unneeded medications at more than 4,200 drop-off locations nationwide.

The 30th National Prescription Drug Take Back Day will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

The collection site will be located in the parking lot of the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, 3250 Kings Mountain Road, Martinsville, Virginia.

In partnership with local law enforcement, Take Back Day has removed more than 20.4 million pounds (10,200 tons) of medication from circulation since its inception.

Collection sites will not accept syringes, sharps, or illicit drugs. Liquid products, such as cough syrup, should remain sealed in their original container. The cap must be tightly sealed to prevent leakage.

For more information and to find a collection site near you, visit www.DEATakeBack.com.

If you have any questions, you may contact Captain Sandy Hines or Lt. Michael Wagoner at 276-656-4200 or 276-638-8751.
