Many serious health conditions don’t cause symptoms right away. That’s why annual blood work is such an important part of preventive care. Routine labs can reveal early signs of heart disease, diabetes, kidney issues, and more, often before you feel anything is wrong. Reviewing these results with a primary care provider helps catch small changes early, when they’re easier to manage. Dr. Diane Rowell has been a cherished member of our Sovah Martinsville family since the summer of 2012. We are deeply saddened by the news of her sudden passing on Monday due to injuries sustained in a car accident. She has been an integral part of our physician team, with a special dedication to caring for patients during overnight shifts.

Dr. Rowell earned her undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt University in 1982 and her medical degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School in 1989. She went on to complete her residency in Family Medicine at Carilion and Roanoke Memorial.

Throughout her career, Dr. Rowell touched—and saved—the lives of countless patients, serving them and their families with compassion, skill, and unwavering commitment. Beyond her clinical impact, she leaves an indelible mark on our teams. Her influence on our staff and her colleagues has been profound, and her absence leaves a heart-shaped void in all of us.

Our love, thoughts, and prayers are extended to her family and friends, and to all who had the honor of serving alongside her in our emergency medicine department.
