The residents at King’s Grant in assisted living got especially crafty this holiday season, and the results speak for themselves.

From hand made decorations to thoughtful details that brought extra warmth to our spaces, creativity was everywhere. A special shout out to resident Archie Bolt, who generously shared his beautiful woodworking for our Christmas decorations. His talent and care added something truly meaningful to the season.

We loved every piece.

A good listen alert 👀

Ever wonder how someone finds their way into senior living leadership or what really happens behind the scenes of a Life Plan Community?

Our President and CEO Josh Lyons was just featured on the LeadingAge Virginia Voices in Leadership podcast and it is full of great stories. From growing up around Sunnyside thanks to his dad’s legacy to building a culture rooted in collaboration care and community today this conversation gives a rare and very human look at leadership in action.

There is talk of mentoring future leaders. Why collaboration matters more than competition. A few glimpses into life outside the office. And an optimistic take on where senior living is headed next.

If you have ever been curious about the heart behind Sunnyside Communities this one is worth a listen.

The trishaw is more than a bicycle. It is a shared experience. With a trained pilot steering from behind, residents sit comfortably in front, able to feel the breeze, watch the seasons change, and take in the familiar beauty of the King’s Grant grounds. The campus, known for its bike friendly layout and peaceful scenery, offers the perfect setting. Routes wind past cottages, gardens, and gathering spaces, with plans for rides that will even extend onto nearby trails.

“This is about dignity, freedom, and joy,” James Souter said. “King’s Grant is a beautiful place to experience from a bike, and the trishaw allows us to share that experience with residents who might not otherwise have the opportunity. It brings smiles, conversation, and a sense of adventure back into everyday life.”

King’s Grant has always been a place built for movement. Curving sidewalks trace the landscape. Gentle grades make every path feel accessible. Tree lined roads invite residents to slow down and stay awhile. Now, the community is moving forward once again as the first of the Sunnyside Communities t...

Last night King’s Grant hosted a very special Lights of Love. This year marked the 30th anniversary of the event, a tradition created by the development team to honor community members who have passed in the last twelve months. The evening included music from staff member, Brenlyn Buzzeo, whose rendition of “O Holy Night” filled the hallways, along with carols led by residents. It all ended with the glow of the tree lighting and refreshments.

The Christmas parade at Kings Grant carried its own kind of winter magic this afternoon.

The true curiosity of the day though was the debut of our new resident tricycle. It's designed to give residents a fresh way to move, explore, and simply feel the pleasure of motion again.

In a season filled with noise, the scene felt wonderfully simple. A parade. A new tricycle. And a community that knows how to savor both.

Today we pause to recognize the quiet, steady generosity that makes this place feel like home. Every act of kindness shapes the lives of our residents and lifts up the staff who serve them with such care. Our Fellowship Fund and our Employee Emergency Relief Fund exist because people who believe in this community choose to give so others can stand a little taller.

If you feel moved to support these efforts, we welcome it with grateful hearts. If you simply share a kind word or a moment of encouragement, that is a gift too.

Thank you for helping King's Grant remain a place filled with compassion, dignity, and hope.
