Recently I’ve been thinking about the fascinating dynamics in families and the rules and roles each sets in motion to keep the family “functioning” in dysfunctional ways. These roles and rules are systemic in nature…meaning that they’ve been molded together over time to keep the system going in the same way that our human organs worked together to keep us alive.
The unfortunate thing about dysfunctional family systems is that they form over time to serve some people more than others. So when one person tries to change their own role or even the rules of their family’s system that has kept them all in constant dysfunction, it freaks everyone else out.
