Lisa Loves to Quilt The art quilts I create have no limits on the materials I use.

I will often use fabric dyes, pigments, watercolors, acrylic paint, digital prints and paper in my original art.

My latest 6”x6” quilted art. The Blue Morpho butterfly was digitally printed from an original photo then stitched on to a cyanotype background that I created with Japanese Maple leaves. I then added lots of machine stitching and hand embroidery to complete the piece.

Goodbye Yellow Poppies. The University of Michigan Hospital, Ann Harbor, MI has purchased it to display in a hallway leading to the Delores Soderquist Brehm Chapel alongside several other Art in Hospital quilts. I'm going to miss it but knowing it's in a good space makes me happy.

I might have went just a little too much on the hand embroidery but I got a lot of practice in.

This work was created with a deconstucted quilt block with added indigo dyed fabric. Machine and hand stitching completed the piece. It’s only 6”x 6” and will be mounted on a wrapped art canvas for hanging. It could probably use some bird legs.

This is just one section of my 8 panels included in a hanging scroll exhibit for the SAQA IN Challenge titled Dangling Prepositions. The exhibit will be premiering at the I-Fell gallery in Bloomington IN during the Indiana Heritage Quilt Show March 5-7. The exhibit will include approximately 25 hanging scrolls all created with hand stitching. The creativity of the SAQA IN members is amazing with each scroll presenting a different take on 8 different prepositions. It was definitely a challenge.

6” by 6”, that is the size for the Small Business Friday art exhibit happening next fall at the Martinsville Art Sanctuary. Working small presents some challenges but I enjoy creating in smaller sizes and have already started planning for the exhibit. This one is mounted on a wrapped canvas. Machine and hand stitching adds variety and texture.

Yesterday, I saw something that I’ve not seen in a long time, sunshine. That bright and shiny stuff that brings joy. It was a great opportunity to create some cyanotype papers for cards. The green one was an experiment. I used a paper I had previously painted green then added the cyanotype mixture.

Creating greeting cards is another passion of mine. I’m teaching a workshop on Monday for a local art club and I’ve had a ball making samples. I prefer using my own art papers I create using a Gelli plate and/or cyanotype prints.
