🦷 What Causes Inflamed Gums?
Before jumping to conclusions or assuming the worst, it’s important to note that there are several possible reasons why your gums may be swollen and inflamed. Some may require more complex treatment, while others will be easier to address. The most common causes of gum inflammation are listed below:
Gingivitis
Gingivitis is a relatively mild form of gum disease. If your gums bleed when using floss, this is a common sign that you have gingivitis. This mild gum disease is usually caused by poor oral hygiene. Plaque buildup causes irritation and infection in the gums.
Periodontitis
Untreated gingivitis often develops into periodontitis, a more severe form of gum disease. More pain is experienced, and teeth may become loose. The condition starts damaging the delicate tissue that holds the teeth in place, causing further inflammation and infection.
Tooth Abscess
A tooth abscess develops when pus collects inside or around a tooth. This condition can be caused by gum disease, tooth decay, fractures, or another problem.
Food Particles Stuck on Teeth
Food particles that get stuck between your teeth can easily press against the gum line. Inflammation leads to swelling. To relieve the pain, try flossing and rinsing with water.
Mouthwash or Toothpaste Reaction Due to Sensitivity
Gum inflammation can be caused by sensitivity to specific products. An allergic reaction to new products can also cause swelling. Typically, the culprit is a new toothpaste or mouthwash.
Pregnancy
Gum inflammation can occur due to the hormonal changes that happen in the body during pregnancy.
New Dental Appliances
Your gums need time to adjust when you get new dental appliances, such as dentures, braces, or retainers. Until then, swelling may occur. Your gums can also become irritated if the dental appliances, like braces or dentures, don’t fit properly. If there is also pain, you should talk to your dentist about a solution.

✨ Natural Toothpaste: A Critical Review 🦷
Natural toothpastes are made primarily from naturally derived ingredients. They usually do not contain synthetic flavors, fragrances, sweeteners, colorants, or preservatives. However, natural toothpastes often include many herbs and other plant extracts, essential oils, and other natural ingredients that are not found in conventional fluoride toothpastes. Many of these additives may be unfamiliar to both consumers and dental professionals. Product reviews often advertise that natural additives in natural toothpastes can promote oral health. However, most natural toothpastes are fluoride-free or contain fluoride in lower concentrations than what is recommended for both children and adults. It is important to note that some natural toothpastes are added with honey or other sugar sources, which can promote cavities, as these sugars are converted into organic acids by plaque bacteria.
