We had an incredible didactics yesterday! We had the privilege of learning about Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT) from Dr. Burton one of recent graduates and some epic tips from the one and only Dr. LaGrandeur.
It's always so inspiring to see the expertise and passion our attending physicians bring to our education. 🙌 And of course, we can't forget the magical touch of the unicorns socks from Sandhya at the end of the day! 🦄

Resident Spotlight: Meet Dr. Velarde!

Carlos has managed various family-owned businesses which include restaurants, beauty salons, construction, and landscaping companies. In his free time he loves playing board games (can’t go wrong with Catan), jigsaw puzzles (the largest one he's done is 9000 pieces), and hiking (nature rocks!).

Christopher is originally from the Philippines and as long as he remembers, he has been performing magic tricks for casual entertainment and for money. He enjoys anime, classical movies and learning new skills and hobbies. His goal is to become a full-spectrum physician who can do inpatient , outpatient and community medicine.

Residency Spotlight! Meet Dr.Scales!

Tricia grew up in Arizona, went to medical school in Grenada and New Jersey/New York. She enjoys going to new places and immersing herself in the culture of wherever she ends up. She tries to keep a good work life balance by doing some sort of physical activity like yoga or running. She wants to focus on women’s health and is interested in doing an OB fellowship.

Resident Spotlight: Meet Dr. Cornwell-Eshete!
Cheri is a rising R3, a Washington native originally from Federal Way, WA. She is passionate about serving the underserved community, the whole reason that led her to the family medicine career. Whether it’s helping people manage their anxiety, depression, prenatal care or doing clinic-based procedures, Cheri does it with care and compassion, ensuring that she constantly practices with an equitable approach. Cheri understands the NEED for primary care providers and uses that to fuel her dedication to give the best care possible. When she’s not running around in clinic, you’ll find her snuggling with her beloved pets, watching mindless TV, or going on adventures with her wife. She is looking forward to another family vacation to Hawaii this summer!

Dealing with an early pregnancy loss can be incredibly challenging. But last week our residents got to learn a new skill to better serve our patients. TEAMM with the University of Washington held a training on MVAC (manual vacuum aspiration), which can be used to better support our patients during this challenging time.

Our first Faculty Spotlight goes to Dr.LaGrandeur!

Born and raised in Salinas, CA (the lettuce capital of the world), Dr. LaGrandeur has always loved doing anything outdoors. After graduation from Stanford University, he was a professional water ski and snow ski instructor prior to enrolling at the University of Arizona College of Medicine-Tucson for medical school. He completed his residency at the UofA before moving to the Seattle area with his wife (who is now completing her residency in Anesthesiology) and dogs. Dr. LaGrandeur is passionate about resident education, inpatient medicine and MSK medicine. Additionally, he just welcomed a new addition to his family, daughter Hazel, with whom he and his family are enjoying the perspective that a baby brings to the world. While not at work, you will find Dr. LaGrandeur hiking in the summer, skiing in the winter, kayaking and exploring the never-ending brewery scene of the PNW.
